Quick Quotes

Q. Do you feel like you're naturally a good links player, or is that something you had to learn?

TOM KIM: I think, yes, because just like the game plan that you have for yourself is so important, sticking to it. And I think that requires a lot of discipline. And I feel like I play golf and what I try to focus on is that discipline part of when you have something you can focus on and you kind of stick to it, and also the mental part of it because you have to stay really patient out there. You can't really force it. You've got to really wait for your time to come.

And I think -- I don't know what it is about it, but I finished second at the British, and I've played here pretty well the last few years. And just hopefully I can continue that run.

Q. Part of the round where there's five in a row where you get up-and-down for par?

TOM KIM: I think it was something like that. I didn't really pay attention to it. But I said in my media just a couple minutes ago, I stayed really patient out there, just tried to position myself.

The wind got tricky a little bit as it started to pick up, and of obviously completely different wind than yesterday. So I think my experience over here the last few years has helped. I've played in both wind directions.

So definitely it adds up, and you kind of know how to play this golf course. And as time goes on, just really glad that I was able to just stay in it and give myself a good position for the weekend.

Q. I'm glad you used the word "patient" because that paid off with a tremendous birdie at 16. Tell me about that second shot.

TOM KIM: It's funny, I got a decent lie, and it was nice to be able to have a decent lie in the rough and be in the fairway, because I don't think even my 3-wood would have been able to go to the green. Because I was in the rough, I was able to hit a shot where it flew under the wind and carried a good number.

Q. Final thing, what has been the difference with you this part of the season? A great showing at the U.S. Open, you're playing great here. Is it something you've been working on or just confidence?

TOM KIM: A little bit of confidence, but it's also I've done a lot of good things the last year. It just hasn't fully shown. And I think being under the radar was kind of nice, just be able to work on my game and keep getting better.

Not being in the spotlight all the time, you don't see everything, you don't see all the good stuff. There's times where I -- because I knew I was really, really close. And I'm still working towards trying to be the best I can be.

But all those little things kind of kept adding, kept adding, and I think it's shown the last couple weeks.
