Quick Quotes
Q. Here with Auston Kim after her second round at the Amundi Evian Championship. Good couple days so far; up near the top of the leaderboard in the morning here. Talk about what you need to do to take advantage on this golf course.
AUSTON KIM: Yeah, you got to hit the fairway first of all. There are a couple holes that are -- they just look very tight off the tee. Like the fairways here are wide, but visually it's very challenging.
So basically being able to hit good drives, and once you're in the fairway, like you're in good position every single time.
Overall, I think it's a lot of commitment and making sure that I'm trusting myself, because like we're all really good here. It's just a matter of can we execute on such a visually demanding course such as this one.
So, yeah, just making sure commitment levels are good and executing the best that I can.
Q. Talked to a few other players about this golf course. A lot of them taking less than driver. Has that been the strategy for you as well, or just bomb it out there like you have been?
AUSTON KIM: There are definitely one or two holes where I'm not hitting driver just because there is no point, but most of the course, yeah, I'm hitting drivers as often as I can.
I'm not a big believer in taking less club because there is -- or taking less club in order to avoid trouble. I don't think that happens much for me.
So, yeah, I'm just trying to, again, hit driver as best as I can and take advantage of it.
Q. And then beginning of this year got off to a great start; had a few missed cuts and T5 at KPMG. Do you feel like your game is rounding back into form now?
AUSTON KIM: I think so, yeah. It's just little things here and there that I'm really trying to make sure that I improve, especially mentally.
Like you said, missing those couple of cuts, they were definitely hard and playing well at KPMG was awesome, but I don't think the past couple of months have gotten any easier.
Just feel like I got a lot tougher and stronger so I'm really proud of myself for that. So every single week I'm just trying to make sure that I focus on my things, do the things that work for me the best that I can, and try to smile more, try to enjoy it.
Q. Heading into the weekend now going to be in contention; only a few shots back. Talk about what those feelings are like heading into a weekend of a major championship with the chance to win a trophy.
AUSTON KIM: Yeah, it's awesome. This is why we work so hard. You know, it's been -- this is my third week in a row so I'm definitely trying to make sure that I get enough rest. The travel, international travel especially, is very tough. The time change has been kicking my butt.
But, yeah, it's awesome. Like I'm just taking it day by day and I'm not adding any pressure to myself. I'm taking each round as an opportunity to learn more about myself and my game and I've been learning a lot these past couple of months about myself and my game.
So heading into the weekend, of course there are a lot of emotions, a lot of things at stake. Again it's a learning opportunity and getting to play another weekend out here is awesome. I've earned it. So I'm going to take that mentality in.
