Matt Fitzpatrick

North Berwick, Scotland

The Renaissance Club

Quick Quotes

Q. What was the formula for the second round that went so well?

MATT FITZPATRICK: Just felt like I did everything pretty solid. I feel like fortunate enough to say that a lot this year. I feel like I hit more in the fairway today. Gave myself some chances to hit my irons close and took advantage of that as well. Felt like I putted solid for the last couple days, and hopefully keep that up over the weekend.

Q. How much comfort when you arrive at a tournament given how you've been playing this year?

MATT FITZPATRICK: Definitely, definitely there's sort of that. You don't want to, you don't want to get complacent with that. I think that's the biggest thing. I think it's easy to be complacent and just kind of be in cruise mode for the rest of the year. I have a great team of people around me and making sure that routines -- the same routines and doing them to the highest intensity that we can for the plan that we set.

So I think it was good prep. I went to Birkdale at the end of last week, just try and get that intensity and get ready for the couple weeks.

Q. About a month and a half left of the season on the PGA TOUR, if you win here, that would be your fourth victory on tour season, and you're on the list of candidates for Player of the Year, how much is that a motivation for you right now?

MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, I wouldn't say it's any motivation. It's a nice added extra. It's like the way I try and describe it over the years, what I've learned it, it's the same way with the Ryder Cup, it comes as part of the process. Your process is to play as well as you can, each individual tournament.

Q. Five birdies in a row from the 11th, what was going through your mind? What were you thinking, feeling, as that was unfolding?

MATT FITZPATRICK: Holed a nice putt on -- I forgot the nines -- confusing the nines. Holed a nice one at 11. Birdie on 12. Tap-in on 13. Good one on 14. Tap-in on 15. It was kind of a very quick stretch of golf, it felt like did you didn't feel too stressful.

Q. You've some fantastic results in the past, how big is the feel good factor when you come here?

MATT FITZPATRICK: I like this place from a confidence standpoint for sure. Somewhere I've played well before, and like you say, I feel like I can take from that every time I arrive. Certainly gives me some good confidence.

Q. Finished fourth here last year and since then, you've had three wins and moved from 22 in the world to 4th. Are you playing the best golf of your life right now?

MATT FITZPATRICK: Definitely. This stretch of sort of March, February onwards to now, it's definitely the best golf I've played in my career for sure.
