THE AMUNDI EVIAN CHAMPIONSHIP

July 9, 2026

Maja Stark

Evian-les-Bains, France

Evian Resort Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Maja, round of 5-under to start week here at Evian; bogey-free as well. Just talk us through this afternoon.

MAJA STARK: Felt very steady the whole round. Yeah, feels like I hit some good irons, better irons than usual, and, yeah, every tee shot here freaks me out. I just thought, screw it, we just have to go for it.

So, yeah, it was pretty stress-free.

Q. And in terms of the putts that you were making, obviously made that one on the last; made one on the fifth here. Just how was that putting around these greens?

MAJA STARK: It was good. I did hit several short, but, you know, I feel like that didn't really stress me out that much. I felt like I had good game in me so I knew I was going to get more chances. And then it just felt like a couple bonuses.

Q. Obviously hot and humid conditions this afternoon. So just how was it battling that when you've got a later tee time?

MAJA STARK: It's fine. It's kind of what we been expecting. Felt like it was even more hot and more humid when we played in the U.S.

So not too bad. I had a headache all day, but sometimes I enjoy playing with headaches because it takes my mind off golf so it's kind of nice.

Q. And in terms of coming back to this golf course, obviously there is a few changes every year when you come back. As you said, it scares you, but you're still putting yourself out there and coming here every year. Is that a fear you want to continue to face around this place?

MAJA STARK: Yeah, I feel like -- I mean, everyone has such different opinions about this place, but I love it because it really challenges me in the things I need to be challenged in, especially leading up to Scottish and British where you're going to have lot of hard shots.

I feel like this is -- not nice to say it's a warmup, but it's good for me to get into this mentality. Obviously I love coming here and I love competing at this course and just hanging out in the town. It's so nice.

So I'm, yeah, very happy that they're making it harder and firmer and everything.

Q. Finally, back in Europe for this little stretch as you just mentioned for the next month. Just how great is it to be back over here?

MAJA STARK: It's so nice. I always forget how much I actually like it, because, yeah, I haven't been to Europe since January and January in Sweden is not that great.

Yeah, I just forget how nice it is in the summer. Everyone is so chill and I feel like everything is just prettier here. People are nicer here. It's probably not even true but I just feel it somehow.

Q. Perfect. Good luck tomorrow.

MAJA STARK: Thanks.
