Quick Quotes

Q. All right, here with Lottie Woad after really, really strong start to the Amundi Evian Championship. Tell me about your round today; had a nice eagle on the last.

LOTTIE WOAD: Yeah, played pretty solid. Was in the fairway a lot and hit a lot of greens and was 5-under kind of early on.

And then, I mean, there is a few tricky holes on the front nine that I played, so dropped a few there, but a nice finish with the eagle to get it back to four.

Q. We know that this is a place that you know how to get your way around. What did you maybe learn from last season that you're finally able to apply to a course for the first time this year?

LOTTIE WOAD: Yeah, I think it's just nice coming somewhere that you're more familiar with. I mean, I probably still played this one of the least out of the most people playing with it being here every year, but this year so far every course has been new.

So even just the practice days it's nice to just kind of turn up and already know where the holes go and stuff like that. Just makes you feel a little bit more comfortable.

Q. Tell me about some of the highlights out there. Couple birdies, one on two, which is always a tricky one.

LOTTIE WOAD: Yeah, nice shot into two to about six feet. Was tracking for a little bit, so it was a nice shot there.

Just on that front nine I think I played really solid tee to green. Didn't make as many putts as I would like to on the front nine, but I think I made a good birdie on 18. Got up and down out of that bunker, and just to wrap up that back nine with 3-under which was nice.

Q. What is it about major championships that gets you kind of rolling, gets you juiced up?

LOTTIE WOAD: Yeah, I think it's fun. They're the ones that you set out to do well in kind of with your goals.

So, yeah, the courses we play are always great as well. Usually play at some pretty iconic places, so I just enjoy that. Sometimes they're tricky courses, too, so just enjoy the challenge.

Q. How do you build on this going forward?

LOTTIE WOAD: Yeah, tomorrow is definitely going to be firmer I would say in the afternoon. I think I could see that throughout the round today. I think just in contrast to Monday it was super soft and I can tell that it's kind of firming the place up.

So I think there will be a few pins you probably can't go at, but there are par-5s and stuff like that you can definitely attack.

Q. Can I just ask about two, the birdie there. When was the first time you played that and what was your thoughts on it?

LOTTIE WOAD: Yeah, I played two years ago was my first time here, so would've played it for the first time that week. I had seen it on TV. I didn't think it was -- it's way more downhill than you think like on TV. You get up there and you just hit it and it's in the air and you're just kind of hoping it's the right club, because you can't really tell.

Q. It's quite unique in terms of like do you feel like there are any of the holes you played that have that sort of sheer drop?

LOTTIE WOAD: I mean, I've probably played a few. I don't think I've ever played one that's 32 yards downhill for the elevation. I don't think I've played one as severe as that, no.

Q. What's key getting a birdie on there?

LOTTIE WOAD: There is a few slopes on the green you can use. That pin was on the right tier so you see it down the right. So there are a few pins you can try and feed into rather than go at it. Like the back left pin you kind of use the slope too.

So I think just trying to use the contours.

Q. What's it like going downhill to like get there, like crossing the road?

LOTTIE WOAD: Yeah, it's not the most fun walk. It's kind of too steep to be enjoyable. You're just leaning back and trying not to fall over.

Q. The view is great.

LOTTIE WOAD: The view is great. Good picture hole for the week.
