Q. How pleased with that day's work?

TOM KIM: That was nice. Nice to get off to a good start. It was an early tee off, so makes definitely lunch taste pretty good. Kind of get ready for the next few days.

Q. You seemed to make most of your scoring on the front nine, your back. Do you feel it played particularly easier or did you find something around the turn?

TOM KIM: I stayed patient. I felt pretty good. Just overall. So I waited for my time and waited for my chances and I took advantage of certain ones that I've had. Just kind of a really not stressful day.

Q. Looking at your finish, you've never finished outside the top 20. What is it about the test of links golf that you enjoy?

TOM KIM: I will have links golf. I think you have to be really patient, and it rewards guys who accept results and are mentally tough because it's not fair all the time. I think I just really love the mindset of going into the week and really having a good game plan sets up. I've always loved coming back here and playing links golf.

Q. It's been a beautiful day today but things could change going into tomorrow. How does that change your approach, or is it just more of the same?

TOM KIM: Same thing. Whatever the conditions are, it's the same for everybody, a full wind flip. But most of the time from 6.00am to 9.00pm, you get the same weather. It's the same for everyone. You have to stay patient. That's kind of the mindset.
