Quick Quotes
Q. 12 months on, defending champion of the biggest victory of your career, arguably, how does it feel to be back in Scotland?
CHRIS GOTTERUP: Yeah, feels good. Obviously good vibes coming over here. Last year was really awesome and a special one for me. To be able to come back and coming off a good week last week, so all the vibes are good here.
Q. It's been quite the 12 months, not necessarily from lifting the trophy, but what do you think is the biggest lesson you've learned from everything that's happened since?
CHRIS GOTTERUP: Yeah, just being able to perform under the pressure that I was under last year was big confidence boost for me. And then to be able to build on that was also, you know, a big thing because I think after my first win at Myrtle Beach I was like, all right, I won, this is going to be easy, and it was not easy. To be able to build on that has been also a huge confidence boost on top of a win here.
Q. Stepping on to the property this week, how are you feeling? Motivated? Nostalgic memories or just another tournament?
CHRIS GOTTERUP: I think a mix of all three. Obviously good memories being back here and trying to take some of that good momentum that I feel when I come back here after winning, and you know, also to that point I don't want to make it a bigger deal, it is another tournament. Try to treat it like a normal week and get ready how I see fit. Just trying to be ready. Doesn't need to be more than that or less than that.
Q. What do you feel in your game was about to click last year that others weren't aware of?
CHRIS GOTTERUP: Yeah, I think any time you can string together four or five good weeks out here, whether that's T-20, might seem like a win. I had a few weeks of doing the right stuff and good momentum, whether it was a couple under Sunday that wasn't the best ever, but I just felt like I was due to put together four good rounds and I did that here.
Hopefully another four week.
Q. Obviously coming off winning the John Deere, your first title of the season. How much do you feel the investment you have auto made in your team and everything around you and your game itself is proving dividends?
CHRIS GOTTERUP: Yeah, I think a ton. There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes for me and for everyone else out here, and there's a lot of people that are involved in us going out there and playing well.
Yeah, everyone that's helped me over the last, you know, however many years I've been playing golf has been a big part of it all, and I've put more and more into it and try to get more and more out of it. I feel like I have this year.
So it's been fun to share that with everyone. I know everyone that is on my team works really hard at getting me ready to go, and I've got to go out there and perform.
So it's been fun. It's been fun to share with everyone, and yeah, hopefully more in store.
Q. You've played nine, the current back nine and front nine you've yet to do. Rerouting is the big topic this week. What opportunities and challenges do you see with what the setup will be?
CHRIS GOTTERUP: I think at the end of the day it's not like we're playing new holes, in theory. It's the same source just laid out a little differently. Obviously last year it was kind of like, all right, I've got, you know, gettable par 5, a couple of shorter holes coming in and now it will be tougher par 4s. I think it will be a tougher finish this year than where last year you had a couple easier holes kind of coming in with 16 and now it's 7.
And just so I don't know how different it will play. This is going to be new for everyone. Definitely different but at the same course at the end of the day. Hopefully just go out there and play well and hopefully the flow is there like it was last year.
Q. Lastly, stellar group for yourself on the first tee. How much are you going to enjoy that and also the crowd?
CHRIS GOTTERUP: Yeah, the fun part about playing well you is get the bigger and better groups, and any time you get people out here to come watch you play is fun. It makes you want to perform better. I feel like it makes me focus maybe a little bit more than when no one is out there watching me. So yeah, it's fun. It's exciting. Yeah, I'm excited.
