Woodmont Country Club (South Course)
Press Conference
THE MODERATOR: We're here with Kim Moore, defending champion to the U.S. States Adaptive Open. Talk a little bit about how preparation has gone for you this week?
KIM MOORE: It's been good. My caddie David and I, we hit a couple shots here and there on a couple different -- especially with some different pin locations that we think might be out there, some approach shots.
But, yeah, overall the course is in great shape. Excited to be here and looking forward to the start tomorrow.
Q. Yeah. I asked Kipp this earlier as well. You obviously figured out Woodmont last year. Do you have any tips or suggestions you want to share with anyone that might be competing here for the first time or keep that to yourself?
KIM MOORE: No, I mean, keeping it in the fairway is important, especially for the female adaptive golfers. The rough is not super long. It's just it can really catch the golf ball. Can make it sink down in the grass in the rough and get squirrelly lies.
So keeping it in the fairway will be important. You really get some great lies on the fairway. Also just putting it in the correct spots, because there is a lot of tiers and undulation on the green that you got watch out for.
If you can put your golf ball in a better spot it's really going to help you at least get a two putt and par.
But that's kind of my motto, is fairways and greens. Two putt and get out of there. So I'll take it every time.
Q. We've chatted a lot this week about what this championship really means to a lot of people. Do you want to talk a little bit about personally maybe some of the friendships or just how this essential reunion feels year after year?
KIM MOORE: Yeah, it is, it's like a big family reunion every year. We get some newbies every year which is great. Shows the growth of the game, growth of adaptive golf. But we do see a lot of the same faces and it's great to see everybody so supportive.
I mean, Ricky Reilly had a hole-in-one yesterday and everybody was congratulations him. It was just a practice round is it was cool. But, yeah, that's the kind of camaraderie we have around here. Every year it's obviously a competitive tournament and we want to do or best, but we also know everybody is out here supporting each other.
Makes you feel pretty good. Both of your parents are out here and you also have a really good friend on the bag.
Q. What does it mean to have so much support from your family on a week like this?
KIM MOORE: It means everything. I mean, the support of my family and friends, I wouldn't be here without them. You know, myself along with pretty much ever competitor here has gone through a lot of challenges and difficulties in their life. Having that support is huge.
I've always been told I can do anything I want to and that's been brought up from my family, my parents, my siblings. Never held me back from anything. To have them here is very special.
My mom didn't get to see Woodmont last year. So she's been pretty in awe of this facility. So it's great to have her and great to have David, my caddie back and his wife is actually here.
So it's pretty fun, too. She's a really good friend as well. It's always great to have your support here. Keeps you relaxed and keeps you humble and kind of focused, too, so I'm excited.
Q. Adaptive golf has come a long way. Changed a lot for the better. Looking to 2032 the Paralympic Games there is a chance that adaptive golf joins the roster at Brisbane. What would the honor of competing for your country at that level mean to you if it were to happen?
KIM MOORE: That would be a dream come true. I know that we've been trying to get adaptive golf in the Olympics. It's been a long time coming and that would be so great to see.
I know with just the emergence of the USGA, R&A, G4D Open, USGA Adaptive Open, so many different adaptive golf tournaments across the different golf associations in the U.S.
It's good to see that that's a possibility. It would be an honor to be able to play. I've had the opportunity it represent the United States and my country and the Cairns Cup and College Park Cup, International Cup. Played a few of those and it's always a different feeling. You're always very proud on the tee.
If your team brings home the victory it's always a very special moment. Man, being part of the Olympics I would love that opportunity. I know it wouldn't be easy but it would be a great experience for sure.
