Quick Quotes
HAYMES SNEDEKER: I'm getting a lot more comfortable, very much so. Had a great pairing with two of them, a class act that made it a lot easier on me than just a standard pairing. They made it very comfortable for me. Again, it's a U.S. Open, it's a major, so this event is one of if not the most unbelievable week of my life. Today was solid. I'm pleased. I can't hit the ball much better at 50 holding a day job, right?
Q. Birdie on 12 out there today; could you walk us through that one?
HAYMES SNEDEKER: Yeah, I had 238 front of the green. If I was playing in a regular tournament, I'd have tried to knock it on the green with that pin, and all the way back, very penal, you have to really control your spin and distance, so laid it up to a great yardage.
My caddie David French, like I said, he's a four- or five-time club champion out here. He has managed my game all the way around. I really didn't want to go for it. I laid up to a perfect number. He gave me the right number to land short of the ridge, and I skipped it over there and it bit. It was a well-played hole. I did exactly what he told me to do and made birdie.
Q. A little cooler today; has the golf course changed at all, do you think, from the past couple days?
HAYMES SNEDEKER: Well, I arrived here last Saturday, and it's night and day. It was wet, soft, and every day it's gotten a little bit firmer. In the fairways the ball is running out. With the heat, the ball is flying further.
Today, this morning, the wind was nonexistent until the last probably five or six holes, so I think today you're going to see some -- I feel like today you're going to see lower scores, more benign -- a few more tucked pins but more benign conditions overall. It's probably 10 degrees cooler, too. Don't kid yourself; it's still people dropping like flies out here passing out, but compared to yesterday and the day before, I bet it's -- to me, it feels significantly cooler.
Q. Any advice from your brother? Have you talked to him at all?
HAYMES SNEDEKER: Oh, yeah. He's been texting me. He's been texting me great tips. Really, the theme of all his texts has been to pace myself and not get overheated and not get ahead of myself, that it's a major; par is super important. Don't get upset if I'm not making birdies and don't look at the scoreboard, which is impossible to do out here, because your mug shot is plastered in front of you every six holes, so it's hard not to look.
But I think just staying present and not getting ahead of yourself and making it about the big picture. Between us, I've already won, in my mind. I'm low amateur. There's so many accolades that go with that. I feel like I'm playing -- like I'm taking a free shot now, like playing on borrowed time. It's great. I'm swinging freer today than I have the last two days for sure.
