Quick Quotes

Q. Charlie, with the double bogey on hole 2 and kind of the tougher start today, how did you fight through that adversity and build toward a strong finish?

CHARLIE WI: Yeah, I told myself to be patient. I pushed my drive on No. 2, and I didn't know the rough was that thick. So I literally moved it about 15 yards. It happens at the U.S. Open.

I know that you just have to be patient and try to plug away. Yeah, I hung in there, and I'm pretty happy about that.

Q. Now that you're through 36 holes, how do you feel about the course? What have you learned that you're going to take in with you this weekend?

CHARLIE WI: It depends if it rains. The conditions are getting firmer, so if they keep the greens firm -- and there's a lot of undulation on the greens, so you've got to make sure you miss on the correct side so you can get it up-and-down and have an easy two-putt.

But if you miss it on the wrong side, you're going to have a tough time getting it up-and-down.
