U.S. SENIOR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP

July 2, 2026

George McNeill

Columbus, Ohio, USA

Scioto Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Just finished your first round. How are you feeling?

GEORGE McNEILL: Hot. I think that's probably a fair assessment from probably everybody.

But I feel good. I think that's probably my lowest score ever in a USGA Championship. This is my first one obviously on the Senior Tour, but the previous ones I played in, the U.S. Opens and stuff, I always had -- never really played that well. It's nice to get off to a good start.

Q. Speaking of that, after your bogey on the 2nd hole, you got three birdies back, how did that front nine feel?

GEORGE McNEILL: To finish that way, and then I made kind of a long putt up the hill on No. 9 for birdie, so that was a nice way to finish that first nine.

Everybody is going to make bogeys. You're going to hit it in some bad positions and you're going to make bogeys. Just trying to avoid the big numbers.

I wasn't upset. It annoyed me, but I wasn't too upset. I was like, all right, get behind you. I was struggling a little bit in my swing early, so I kind of figured something out and got going, and it worked out all right.

Q. Any holes particularly challenging in your day? Anything you might attack differently tomorrow?

GEORGE McNEILL: The par-3 No. 14, that one is tough. Today it was probably playing about as easy as I guess it's going to. The pin was in a tough spot. Then it's just got a weird hump in the middle of the green.

If you get in the wrong side of it, you're going to have some struggles with putting, and I did. I three-putted that one. I hit it on the wrong side of the hole and paid for it.

Other than that, everything's in front of you. Everything's fair. Again, if you hit it in the right spots. If you get out of position, you're going to have some struggles.
