Quick Quotes

THE MODERATOR: We've joined by Ina Yoon at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship. What are your thoughts on your round out there today?

INA YOON: I had a really long day, actually, especially the front nine. I was just nervous a lot. I missed short putts. Yeah, that's what I expected.

I'm kind of learning still.

I think it was way better than the second round of the U.S. Open. I keep improving, so yeah, I think that's the point today.

Q. What do you do to stay calm, stay positive, when things are not going well?

INA YOON: You know, it's just golf. It's not killing me. So just embrace whatever happens, and just having fun with Kevin. Kevin helps me a lot keep composed. He helped me a lot in every --

Q. What kind of things did he say to you to keep you positive and calm?

INA YOON: Like a lot of stuff. Like when I need to have confidence, he just gives me that. Sometimes he gives me water and snacks. That's actually really important in the game.

Q. When did you feel like things started to calm down for you out there today?

INA YOON: I think, like, through hole No. 10, I kind of got back my feelings. After that, I think I did pretty well.

Q. When you're feeling out of sorts out there, can you describe what that feels like in your body?

INA YOON: Like when I get nervous?

Q. Yeah.

INA YOON: Of course, like many butterflies in my body, not just stomach. Sometimes I'm shaking, like everyone does. And I breathe fast, so I try to breathe slower and walk slower. Yeah, that's all.

Q. Was the nervousness worse than you thought it would be because you said you expected it. Whenever you're nervous, how much does the wind make it worse?

INA YOON: Yeah, I think it was pretty windy beginning of the round. It was pretty much the same, what I expected. That was exactly what I expected. Yeah, it was nothing special for me.

Q. You mentioned the nerves you felt today. Is there a time on the KLPGA or other tournaments where you've been nervous, and what did you do to handle that or feel more calm or at ease?

INA YOON: Yeah, I think I was nervous when I'm playing KLPGA, as well. When I get nervous, just try to breathe and drink some water and have some snacks so I can chew. Yeah, talking with Kevin or maybe the other players, that actually really helps.

Q. Are there things that you and Kevin like to talk about that take your mind off golf?

INA YOON: Yeah, he sometimes asks me about my little puppy Nana. She's only, like, eight months old. When I'm thinking of her, it's really -- that makes me happy.

Q. What kind of dog is she?

INA YOON: She's a yorkie. She's like this big, two pounds.

Q. Does she travel with you?

INA YOON: Not now, but she's going to.

Q. How were you feeling when you went to hit that first tee shot today?

INA YOON: My first tee shot, I wasn't extremely nervous about it, but I think I was a little unlucky. It was tucked in the bunker, so I had to lay up. I tried to keep calm. I thought when I had the birdie on 3 I was able to kind of think to myself I was keeping my calm, but missing my short putts had me a little frazzled, but overall I think I was kind of able to recover from that and kind of survive this round.

Q. At what point did you feel like you got really comfortable in your round? Towards the end of the round it looked like you started to hit more greens and more fairways.

INA YOON: After 10, I think I found my pace. Even on the front nine, I didn't do anything different, but I think that I was a little unlucky, so there was a little frustration there. But after, I think, starting from the back, I was less nervous and I was able to have snacks, and I think I was getting more comfortable, so had a bit better shots.

Q. Heading into tomorrow, you're still going to be in contention heading into the final round. What did you learn today that you're going to try to bring into the final round tomorrow?

INA YOON: It was my first time and experience having such a lead, so I expected to be nervous. Despite that, I think I was able to keep my calm relatively well, and playing through nerves was the lesson I really learned today.
