Quick Quotes
Q. Nelly Korda joins us here at the 2026 KPMG Women's PGA Championship. Nelly, 4-under today. How would you summarize your round?
NELLY KORDA: Yeah, it was -- the front nine was great, shot 4-under, and then had a case of the hooks on a few of my tee shots on the back nine. Figured it out going down the stretch, so pleased with my day.
Q. When do you have those lefts on the golf course, are you trying to fix anything while you're out there? Was it another grip change? Were you just hanging on for dear life?
NELLY KORDA: No. Well, that's the thing. At Riv it's a dead right and now it's left. I was joking with Jay, I would've killed for this shot at Riv. (Laughing.)
But, yeah, I mean it's just golf. It's funny, right? It always kind of humbles you and you're always kind of scratching your head a little bit in some ways.
Yeah, just figured -- at one point I was like, I have no idea what's going on. Feel like my tempo is pretty good, but just tried to think about one thing and that helped me.
Q. What does it say to you that you may not have the ball striking in the spot you want it, but your still shot a 4-under and managed to have only one bogey on the card?
NELLY KORDA: Yeah, I mean, I only put myself into a really difficult position on 10 where I had to chip out, and 11 thankfully I had an opening on the green and it was just a wedge shot in.
So I chose my hooks well.
Q. After clawing your way back at Riv, does that sort of change your mindset at all when you have a deficit to overcome this time around?
NELLY KORDA: Yeah, it is hard to have a big lead going into the weekend. I was there at Chevron and you do feel a little bit more pressure, like everyone is hunting you down. I'm just going to focus on, as boring as it is, one shot at a time and see where that takes me.
I know the winds will be higher this weekend so it's going to play probably a little bit more difficult and I'm sure that the pins will be tricked up.
Q. Do you have a Post-It note this week?
NELLY KORDA: Yes, but I won't share. But, yes. (Laughter.)
Q. How would you assess how you blocked out all the noise this week?
NELLY KORDA: Pretty good. I mean, you know, I've just been really happy on and off the golf course really. I think that's what really helps. I'm very settled off the golf course. I have my people here with me that when I have maybe some noise around me, I don't really think about it at all when I'm not out here, which is really nice.
Having Greyson, Jess out here again has been really nice. Caro and Benton joined this week too. Dining has been a lot of fun even pre-round.
I think I've just learned. I've learned to kind of block it out. I've been doing this for long enough to know that what works and what doesn't.
And I'm continuously growing, too. I mean, some stuff that worked in 2024 wasn't really working last year. And that's the greatest thing about sports and your mindset is that you always have to kind of push yourself.
Q. How do you attack this golf course when you're in a chasing position?
NELLY KORDA: It's definitely a golf course where you have to pick and choose. So depending on the pin location, the softness, winds, we just kind of make our game plan the day of. Jay and I are really good at that. Prep is great Monday through Wednesday, but we've had a different wind every single day so far, so I played different clubs off the tee.
So every single day you're kind of adapting to your situation.
Q. We got to ask about the bag, being in the state of hockey. What do you think of it. I know it might be a conflict with your Packers. We're a big fan of the bag.
NELLY KORDA: Thank you. Yeah, the bag is great. Obviously gives Viking vibes, you know, so make sure that I kept my Packer head covers on the bag.
But it's great. It's the colors of the women's hockey team, right, here?
Q. Yeah.
NELLY KORDA: I think TaylorMade always does a really great job with kind of picking little fun facts from everywhere that we go and kind of blending it into our bags, and I think they did a great job with this one supporting women's hockey.
