Hazeltine National Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Haeran Ryu joins us s now at the 2026 KPMG Women's PGA Championship. 8-under today. How would you describe that round?

HAERAN RYU: Yeah, was amazing. I felt so happy to make a lot of birdies today and then bogey-free round. That's a lot means to me.

And then I'm so happy now.

Q. Can you talk about your process on the greens. How can you make those many putts?

HAERAN RYU: Yeah, yesterday I tried to change my putter because it's -- sometimes I miss a short putt my old putter. That's why I try to change it; it's still bad.

Today I used same putter as Kroger Championship a month ago, so I felt it's so great and I can make a lot of birdies today.

Q. And you did, yeah.

HAERAN RYU: Yeah. It was good.

Q. So what putter did you use yesterday? What putter did you use today?

HAERAN RYU: A little bit more smaller head than today's because I want to be more sensitive putter.

But today, again, going to a little bigger and more consistence for me. So, yeah, I felt so great today.

Q. So we haven't seen you in a while. Have you been battling an injury? You took some time off.

HAERAN RYU: Can I ask for Korean for this one?

Q. Yeah, sure.

HAERAN RYU: (Through translation.) Yes, I did take a month off at home and it was a tiny, minor surgery. I got to -- it was my first time taking a month off middle of the season so I got to experience a lot of things off the course.

I'm really happy to be back.

Q. So do you think that time off helped you to play like you are playing here this week?

HAERAN RYU: Yeah, I think.

Q. Why?

HAERAN RYU: Definitely yes, because beginning of the season I play well and then but I felt it's a little bit tough schedule for me, so that's why I just stay offseason a month.

But it is a little bit hard for choose my come back seasons because a lot of major in the middle of the season. So but it was so happy to I come back and then KPMG Championship and play well today, so that's why I'm so happy right now.

Q. Was it difficult to give up the U.S. Women's Open knowing you needed to do so?

HAERAN RYU: (Through translation.) Yeah, it was so hard to choose to cancel the U.S. Open. I just think about it, just miss cut at the U.S. Open, so, yeah, it was enjoy and then it was happy to just stay in Korea.

But it is too hard to chose cancel.

Q. You were really good at shooting very low golf scores. When you're making a lot of birdies what's the mindset, key for you to making a lot of birdies?

HAERAN RYU: (Through translation.) Every round is so different, but today, yeah, yesterday my score is not good, so I just think about it like it's, okay, I just missed cut. I just trusted my swing and then I work out a lot in Korea, so I just trust my swing and my confidence and my putter and shots.

That's it. And then I don't care anything. Just I care for my swing.

Q. What are some of the things you did in your month off that you normally don't do?

HAERAN RYU: Yeah, usually I just go back to Korea and I just practice and work out and I met my coach, and that's it. Because just a ten days stay in Korea. I just stay a month middle of the season, so I just try to make a lot of enjoy golf except the tournament, and then I just take a lot of time in my parents and I met my friends. Yeah, just hang out a lot. (Smiling.)

So I don't have a lot of stressful in the Korea so that's why I play well today. Relax.
