Flash Interview
THE MODERATOR: J.T. Poston, even par. J.T., congratulations. Great round today. Why don't you just kind of talk about what went well for you today?
J.T. POSTON: Just really solid golf, honestly. You know, maybe a little slow start the first four holes, but got on a nice run there to finish off the front nine.
You know, you catch a couple of breaks, make a couple long putts, the putt from off the green, and you start to think that it could be a pretty good day.
So, you know, we hung in there. I feel like with four to go, I had a great look on 15. Honestly hit a good putt. Just a tricky one with the wind going the opposite direction of the break. Unfortunately missed that one. Then, you know, felt like I played 17 pretty solid and made a 4 there, unfortunately. It's a hard golf course, so I'm pretty happy with where I finished.
THE MODERATOR: This was your seventh U.S. Open start. A lot of great golf lately, especially at the Memorial. How do you feel about your game just trending for the rest of the summer?
J.T. POSTON: It feels good. It's nice to start to see some results and some good scores with all the work we've been putting in. You know, obviously Memorial was a huge validation of that and a huge boost of confidence, I feel like.
Coming into a week like this where you know it's going to be hard and Memorial is very hard, so I felt really good about where my game was. I felt like we were really good about being patient the first three days. Then a little calmer winds out there today I felt like yielded maybe a few more birdies, so we felt like we could try and post a number.
THE MODERATOR: This is your best finish at a U.S. Open. What takeaways will you be bringing into Pebble Beach next year?
J.T. POSTON: I think just that I can play this tournament well. I think I hadn't had a great finish up until this week. Again, Memorial is a hard week, a lot of times very similar to a U.S. Open.
Obviously Shinnecock is a real test, and I feel like to play as well as I did, especially on Sunday, is a huge boost of confidence. I'll take that into next year at Pebble, and it will be fun to play a U.S. Open venue that we've actually played quite a bit.
THE MODERATOR: It is Father's Day. I know your daughter is here. Any fun plans for after the round today?
J.T. POSTON: We're going to head over to Connecticut. I'll go catch up with them, but I do want to give a special shout-out. My brother had a baby yesterday, just in time for his first Father's Day. Happy Father's Day to him and my dad.
We'll celebrate however my daughters want to celebrate.
