U.S. OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP 2026

June 21, 2026

Sam Stevens

Southampton, New York, USA

Shinnecock Hills Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Start to finish, where you were on Thursday to this point and how you played through the four days?

SAM STEVENS: Yeah, it was pretty good. I felt like I played pretty well today. I kind of scrapped it around yesterday, which was good, and kind of needed to, and then today I was a little nervous on the first three holes, but the last 15 holes I really felt great. Felt like I could have -- you know, I made birdies on 9 and 10, and I was, like, all right, I'm somewhat back in this thing.

Felt like I played pretty good the last eight holes. I just didn't get anything to go and hit a bad drive on 16. It's really your only birdie chance on the back nine, or one of the few. That kind of took an opportunity away.

But other than that, I felt pretty good about things.

Q. The top-10 finish qualifies you automatically to next year's championship at Pebble Beach. How does it feel that the weight is off your shoulders there and you have the automatic qualification?

SAM STEVENS: Yeah, that's cool. That's cool. It's my first top 10 in a major. It's nice that it comes along with a few perks. I think if I had made that putt on 18, I would have gotten into Augusta, but hit a good putt.

No, it's great to be in the top 10, and Pebble is an awesome place. I really like it. I never played the U.S. Am out there, so it will be fun to play a USGA event out there.
