HSBC CHAMPIONSHIPS

June 19, 2026

Arthur Fery

London, England, UK

Queens Club

Press Conference

F. CERUNDOLO/A. Fery

7-6, 3-6, 6-4

THE MODERATOR: First of all, not the result you were hoping for, Arthur, but you put on a really impressive battle out there and you had a great week overall at Queen's. How would you summarize your experience this week?

ARTHUR FERY: Thanks. Yeah, disappointing finish today. Yeah, it was a tough match. He's a good player, and yeah, I'm sure I'll draw some important lessons from it, but yeah, overall happy with the week.

THE MODERATOR: Questions.

Q. Well played. I just wondered how much confidence can you take from a week like this, having a run at the quarterfinals, a 500-level event, getting a couple of really big wins, and then playing a player like Cerundolo so close?

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, definitely some confidence to be taken from this tournament. I played two really good matches. Well, three really good matches. Two went my way.

Yeah, it's more matches done on grass and more matches and confidence to take forward.

Q. You're up to 117 I think in the live rankings, which will be a big jump to a new career high. How much does that mean? And do you have a goal in mind in the rankings that you wanted to achieve this year?

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, it would be nice to keep moving towards the top 100 and then obviously further than that. No, the goal is to focus on improving, on playing better tennis, and yeah, I mean, if you keep winning matches, the rankings will come.

Q. Tell us about the moment when you unfortunately hit him in the throat. Did you apologize to him? Did you speak to him backstage? It could have changed the match, couldn't it, if obviously he was injured?

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah. Yeah, what can I say? I don't know. I didn't try to hit him in the throat, obviously. He just didn't really want to pick a side, so I tried to go through them, and yeah, obviously hit him.

Unfortunate, but I can't do much. Yeah, came to apologize and he was fine.

Q. How do you rate your chances at Wimbledon, given what you have done this week? I think you've got Eastbourne, as well.

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, it's positive. It's positive. I definitely see myself competing with these kind of players, and yeah, hopefully can bring the same level to Wimbledon.

Q. What does the home support mean to you, obviously playing in front of such a good atmosphere at Queen's? How did that sort of help you fight back from a set and break down?

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, yeah. It's great to have so many fans behind me. That court was busy, and it was a great atmosphere today.

Yeah, it's why we play tennis, to play matches with that many people watching and supporting you. So, yeah, it's tough in the moment obviously to really take it in, but then in hindsight, yeah, it's great.

Q. What do you think is the biggest difference between, like, being an up-and-comer, a new player to the tour, versus more seasoned players like Cerundolo today?

ARTHUR FERY: I mean, the main thing is probably experience. He's probably played so many of these matches before in his career with that level of importance attached to it.

So, yeah, he's probably more composed in those important moments. Yeah, he's done it before. Today, yeah, that's what I lacked a little bit, and yeah, the pressure of the match definitely got to me a little bit throughout, in different stages of the match.

Yeah, obviously just pure tennis-wise, as well, there is lots of things that I can improve that I'm going to need to improve if I want to get to that level, to that ranking.

But, yeah, obviously a game of small margins. So, yeah, I had my chance today, but couldn't get it over the line.

Q. Arthur, can I clarify regarding Stanford University? Have you got another year to go, or that's in the locker, or that's it?

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, I have one year left to graduate, yeah.

Q. You're going to continue your studies? Are you going to go back very soon?

ARTHUR FERY: I haven't taken any classes in the last three years, so I have completed about three-quarters of my degree. Yeah, it's on hold, and I can finish it whenever, yeah, whenever my tennis career is over.
