Flash Interview
THE MODERATOR: Scottie Scheffler, 2-under 68 out there today. Scottie, can you just talk us through the round?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, I did a good job of keeping a pretty clean card today. I had the bogey there on my fourth hole, which was 13, but outside of that, no bogeys.
So that's always nice when you're coming around a U.S. Open golf course, especially one as challenging as this.
Yeah, wish I could have made a few more birdies coming in, but I did a lot of good stuff out there. Hit some nice shots. Hit a lot of good putts as well. They were just kinda right around the edge.
THE MODERATOR: Still in the top 10, right in the mix. What's the mindset coming back tomorrow?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, see how the conditions are when we get out tomorrow. You know, this golf course can change pretty quickly, so we'll see how the golf course presents itself tomorrow, especially early in the day.
I'll do my best to watch a little bit of golf and see how things are playing, but overall just come out tomorrow and continue to try to execute.
Q. Scottie, when you have one guy at 7 like Wyndham and then everyone else kind of bunched, are you approaching a round differently, or does that not come into play on a Saturday yet?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I mean, not really, no. I think the tournament is halfway done. Yesterday was a day in which you could kind of shoot yourself out of the tournament. The conditions were really, really tough yesterday. Did a good job of hanging in there.
I had a tough front nine yesterday, but battled back nicely on the back nine. Then had another solid day today to kind of back that up. You know, hopefully do more of the same over the next couple of days.
Q. Obviously we're expecting conditions to be a little tougher tomorrow, I would assume. What do you want to see?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: What do I want to see?
Q. Yeah, conditions-wise.
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Doesn't really matter to me. I just play. Like I said, the golf course can change pretty quickly, and so a lot of that depends on do they want to water the greens, how fast they want to get them, where is the wind direction coming from, can they get them much quicker. There's a lot that goes into how they want to set up this golf course.
You know, there's definitely some challenges to that I think with the amount of pitch they have on the greens, but overall we'll see what they want to do. My job is to go out there and play it. My job is not to set it up. So doesn't matter to me.
Q. Even with Wyndham at 7-under, from your perspective, what's been the biggest challenge of the golf course so far and maybe what do you expect that to be kind of going forward?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I mean, the biggest challenge so far I think for most of the tournament was just the wind. I mean, the wind was up yesterday. Wind was up again today. This golf course, with the amount of pitch you have on the greens, playing in the wind is extremely difficult, and judging speed on putts when the wind is blowing that hard can be challenging as well.
I think the wind definitely was the biggest challenge the first couple of days. Looks like we're going to have some more wind tomorrow. Wyndham was able to handle it really well obviously the first couple of days, but like I said, the tournament is halfway done. I did a good job of kind of hanging in there the last two days, and hopefully start making a bit of a move over the next couple of days.
