Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA

Blythefield Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. All right, here with Mary after her second round at the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give. Mary, got off to a really strong start: four birdies on the first nine holes. Can you talk a little bit about just getting off to a good start and how that momentum carries you through a round?

MARY LIU: It feels dream come true because I always struggling a little bit about how to hit better on the front nine, and then finally today I hit really good front nine, so really proud of everything we did.

And then, yeah, just a good experience to learn for everything.

Q. And then just heading into this week, you made a handful of cuts this year. Do you feel more comfortable out here on the LPGA Tour now?

MARY LIU: Definitely yes. And then I think my team is growing up, like I have really good coach and then trainer, physio, and I find good caddie. My mom support me a lot; my family support me. I made lots of friend in local like here or all over the place.

So I feel really grateful for everything traveling on the LPGA.

Q. And this round you made it through bogey-free. What are you doing to avoid bogeys and make sure you're playing to the safe spots?

MARY LIU: Oh, thank you for remind me. I don't even know I got bogey-free. Well, for this part I think I learn a lot from last week at Dow, because we all want to make a lot of birdies and try to do our best, and then just something, momentum, and then the feeling, it makes me grow a lot.

And then so today I just, okay, just be safe, be on par, because there are several holes really tough to hit closer. And then it's so windy a little bit. Compared to yesterday today is fine, but still really tough pin.

So just one shot at a time. Anything is possible.

Q. Heading into the weekend, looks like you'll be up near the top of the leaderboard in contention. How good does it feel to see your name up there and try to go get a win?

MARY LIU: It feels great. Can't be better because I always try to be like top on the leaderboard, just get closer, closer, closer. And then I think my coach help me a lot. Everyone in my team, my caddie just support me a lot. I just get improve a little bit by a little bit, step by step, and then I think we'll see the future.

Q. So like you mentioned, bogey-free round today; really good shooting out there. How important was today to kind of build momentum going into the weekend?

MARY LIU: I think first, just hit on the fairway. Yeah, that's so important for me, because sometime my driver is not work well. Then this course, the rough is really tough to hit and then just give you lots of work, so if I want to play easy, better, put a lot of attention on driver first, and that will help me through the weekend I think.

Q. The conditions today were much different from yesterday. Did that impact your strategy at all? Were you able to get more aggressive or anything like that?

MARY LIU: Yeah, definitely. I think yesterday I tee off afternoon. It's really windy. But today I just made some incredible putts that I never expect and then there is several par-5 I hit really good, so everything just goes well.

Golf, when you play good, just something there. Then I have to understand it's just one day and still have lots of day going in the future. So just keep doing it.
