THE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

June 19, 2026

Stuart Grehan

Hoylake, Merseyside, England, United Kingdom

Quick Quotes

Q. Stuart, congratulations. Through to the final here at The Amateur Championship. How does that sound?

STUART GREHAN: Pretty good. Yeah, I'm delighted. Really tight, tight match there. Richie, know him very well, so I knew he would produce some good stuff, which he did. Luckily I produced some good stuff myself.

Yeah, thrilled.

Q. Speaking of good stuff we can't go any further without talking about that chip in on 11. Talk us through that one.

STUART GREHAN: Yeah, that was nice. I just birdied eight, ten, and then obviously a little bit of a bad tee shot there but just fancied it the second I got there to go to lob wedge. And to be honest, about six feet out it was just tracking in nicely, dead in the middle, so that was nice, yeah. Special moment.

Q. It was a really hard match out there and he kept battling back. I guess what were you telling yourself through those moments and what was Dan, your caddie, saying?

STUART GREHAN: Yeah, if I was being totally honest I probably let a couple holes slip, especially 12 and 13, holes I probably should have won. If I'm being honest. I think Richie would probably agree. So you're kind of thinking 3-up there and you're only 1-up and suddenly I lose 14 so it's all square. So, yeah, I was getting a little bit agitated.

And 15 I had a chance and missed it. Look, I played the last couple holes really well. Luckily good enough and just the conditions were quite tricky.

Q. Are you feeling some good momentum and some good vibes heading into the final tomorrow?

STUART GREHAN: Yeah, I'm playing really well. Hitting the ball great. Very comfortable. I enjoy all the people out there, the crowds. Hopefully a few more of them tomorrow. I really enjoyed the match today, and this is what you play for, isn't it? Yeah, I'm buzzing for tomorrow.

Q. The Irish is certainly a passionate supporter base. I've heard that there is a (indiscernible) coming out, already on the way.

STUART GREHAN: Yeah, that would be pretty special. Yeah, so, yeah, bring it on. The more people the better. You know, create that really good atmosphere.

So, look, if they're pulling for me, great. Look, I still have to play really good golf tomorrow and see how we go.

Q. It's been a lot of golf so far this week. How do you prep, recover and prepare for tomorrow?

STUART GREHAN: Yeah, just try and go and get some good sleep. I don't know what time I play tomorrow. I'm sure around 8:00.

Q. 8:32?

STUART GREHAN: 8:32, there you go. That's not too bad actually. I've been waking up at 6:00 every day, so I'll go to bed at 9:00, wake up at 6:00, do the same routine.

So, yeah, look, I feel pretty fresh. Obviously a little bit older than everyone else here, but I've been prioritizing my recovery this week, and, yeah, it's kind of paying off so far.

Q. Is it hard not to start dreaming about what could be tomorrow afternoon should you have that trophy in your hands and everything that comes with that and what that means?

STUART GREHAN: A little bit, but to be honest, like it would be foolish of me to say that you're not thinking of that. I mean, I'm sure Matt is thinking exact same as me.

Look, when I get on the first tee tomorrow I'm going to park all that and just one shot at a time. That's what I've been kind of doing all week. So, yeah, just same tomorrow.

Q. It was an Ireland-U.S. final last year.

STUART GREHAN: That's true, yeah. Yeah, yeah, that's amazing Gav got to the point last year and we were from the same club, so it's pretty special, isn't it?

But, yeah, look, hopefully go one better than him and see. But, look, we'll just see. Get on the first tee tomorrow and just put my feet forward and see what happens.

Q. Do you want to give that club a shoutout?

STUART GREHAN: County Louth. Everyone there, tell them where I'm from or where I grew up, I'm sure they're out watching as well. Yeah, obviously being a member at County Louth last eight years has been incredibly special. I won the east of Ireland there a few weeks ago, first member in 42 years to win it.

So that was pretty cool as well. And, look, they've been excellent to me. It's a great club. Just really proud to be a member there.
