Quick Quotes
Q. Stuart, well done. Quarterfinalist here at The Amateur. How are you feeling?
STUART GREHAN: Very relieved. Yeah, it was a really tough match against Sergio. I think the only time I was up was on the last hole there, the 20th. So, yeah, very happy. It was a hard-fought win; few clutch putts coming in from kind of both of us. Yeah, look, absolutely delighted.
Q. Talk to us a little bit about the ebb and the flow of the match and how it all kind of unfolded?
STUART GREHAN: Yeah, to be honest, he was kind of up all day. He played really well at the start of the game. I think he was maybe 3- or 4-under and I just couldn't get a hold on him.
But I think the biggest turning point was maybe around ten. I had probably about a 15-footer for a half to stay 2-down. I got a little momentum off that and got him back to 1-down on 13, and then I won the 17th as well.
So, yeah, we holed two good putts on 18 to kind of bring it down to extra holes, and then luckily I was probably going birdie the 20th, and unfortunately he was in a bit of trouble.
So, look, absolutely delighted.
Q. When you have to spend so much of the match down like that, is it real mental toughness that you have to call upon to kind of hang in there and get the job done?
STUART GREHAN: Yeah, 100 percent. Yeah, just kind of relied on experience I guess. I wasn't in the best form I would say through 10 or 11 holes, so I have to credit my caddie, Dan. He was excellent. He kept me in it.
Yeah, my chipping just kind of kept me in the game. And, yeah, look, just absolutely thrilled to get through. New day tomorrow.
Q. You've got your family out here supporting you as well. Is it nice -- does that spur you on to try and get a win in front of the fam?
STUART GREHAN: 100 percent, yeah. It's not too often they get to come overseas. To come to like The Amateur, like the biggest event over here, it's amazing. So, yeah, nice to do something special in front of them -- look, there is long way to go yet.
Q. Another big match play event coming up later on at home.
STUART GREHAN: Yes.
Q. Has that been in the back of the mind that you want to play well and show what you can do in match play?
STUART GREHAN: 100 percent, yeah. Like, I mean, I played last year and I got a great tastes for it obviously being in the States and stuff like that. But being at home and Lahinch, you know, Irish crowd, course I love, course that I've done well on, it would be incredibly special.
Look, I have a job to do this week first in the morning, so see how that goes.
