Quick Quotes
Q. Well, Richard, another -- well, a brilliant day. Third time you made it through to the quarterfinals of The Amateur Championship in four years. Must be absolutely delighted.
RICHARD TEDER: Yeah, I mean, it's been unbelievable at The Amateur. I love the links course, and I've been struggling this year, but kind of gotten the game in a very, very good shape, which I tend to do for the British Am every single year, which is awesome.
Q. What is it about The Amateur Championship that stirs your senses?
RICHARD TEDER: Oh, it's just the biggest tournament for me. In the amateur scene, I mean, you just have to play good. It's just one of those weeks where you just cannot play bad.
Q. Uh-huh, uh-huh. You've simply played some terrific golf today. Just talk us through that afternoon match. You were 3-down at one stage after a little bad run, but really came back, didn't you?
RICHARD TEDER: Yeah, I was 3-down after eight and I told my caddie, we still have ten holes left. I mean, I had a great back nine today in the morning, so I knew the putting was there. I knew everything was there. Just need to stay patient and swing smooth, yeah.
Q. Yeah. What kind of kick started that recovery this afternoon? Was there one...
RICHARD TEDER: Yeah, I mean, hit a great, great first shot on nine. Hit it just over the green on the par-4 and then chipped it to nine feet and made the putt.
And then on 10 made another, what was it, 15-footer that. That kind of got me going.
And then made eagle on 16. Made a putt off the fringe, which was huge.
Q. Yeah, absolutely massive. As you said, this morning I think you covered your, what, last seven holes 6-under par, was it?
RICHARD TEDER: Yeah, yeah, in the morning.
Q. In the morning.
RICHARD TEDER: It was some very good golf played. And also now. I mean, I went bogey-free after the eighth hole. Couple birdies and an eagle. So couldn't ask for anything more.
Q. Those little spells, is that safe to day some of the best golf you've conjured this season?
RICHARD TEDER: Yeah, 100 percent. This season for sure; my ball striking has been out of this world and I've actually saw a putting coach for the first time in my life a week ago, so that has taken my putting to a completely different level, which is awesome to see.
Q. Yeah. What was it the putting coach found?
RICHARD TEDER: My green reading has been terrible for literally years. I've been losing four to five shots every single round on the greens, which is -- you can't compete like that.
Saw some green numbers in the first two stroke play rounds for putting, which gave me a lot of confidence and it's been awesome.
Q. Absolutely. As you say, the quarterfinals, be nice to get over that hurdle given that you've been at this stage before. Just a couple more would be nice.
RICHARD TEDER: Yeah, yeah. I mean, haven't gotten past the quarterfinals yet, but I've never been playing so good so I am pretty confident going into tomorrow.
Q. Yeah. I mean, when you get to this stage, I mean, I know you've experienced an Open Championship, but when you get into the last stage, does the mind start to think about what's on offer at The Amateur Championship or not just yet?
RICHARD TEDER: No. No. Not yet. There is still a lot of matches to go. I need to win two matches. It's a marathon not a sprint, so long way to go.
Q. And it's tiring as well. But the kind that just -- the adrenaline and the excitement keeps you going for sure.
RICHARD TEDER: Yeah, 100 percent. But I played so many holes today, 35 holes today, so it was definitely not easy.
Q. Well, hopefully get another few tomorrow.
RICHARD TEDER: Yeah, get some good rest.
Q. Good man. Excellent. Thank you Richard. Good stuff. Well done. Keep it going.
