Quick Quotes
Q. Well, Sam, two great wins, a tough day, but you're into the quarterfinals. Just sum up today's events.
SAM EASTERBROOK: Yeah, it was obviously a good day. Played pretty solid all day today. I was scrappy yesterday, so worked on some things and brought it better today and played really good this afternoon. We had a great match.
So, yeah.
Q. Kind of came out of the blocks quite quickly, eagle, birdie to start.
SAM EASTERBROOK: It was -- so on the third I hit it 20 feet in two, par-5, and he holed it from like 130. And then I missed my eagle putt and I was like, oh, here we go. It's going to be one of those days.
No, it was nice. I sort of stopped that momentum pretty quickly and just kept playing good and holing some putts.
Q. Yeah, you kind of have to shrug those things off because that's kind of a classic match play moment, isn't it?
SAM EASTERBROOK: Yeah, yeah. It was -- like at the time I kind of laughed it off, which was nice because it was like I really didn't let it affect me. Just like, oh, sort of took it the right way and kept playing.
Q. Was there a little turning point there in the match?
SAM EASTERBROOK: I mean, not really. I mean, maybe. It was like we both played great on the front nine and then I had a good two putt on 10 and then holed like a 30-footer for birdie on 11. I would say that's when it kind of swung my way a little bit.
Q. Yeah.
SAM EASTERBROOK: And then I just sort of rode that out.
Q. Pretty comfortable coming in really.
SAM EASTERBROOK: Yeah.
Q. As I say, it's a tiring shift knowing you're getting two rounds and two tough games, but the adrenaline keeping you going?
SAM EASTERBROOK: Yeah.
Q. Just.
SAM EASTERBROOK: Yeah, go home, get some sleep. But, yeah, anything sort of you can get momentum-wise to go your way you got to use it because like you said it's a long week.
Q. Yeah, yeah. I think you said you had been knocked out in the first round most times you played in this.
SAM EASTERBROOK: Yes.
Q. Has this kind of exceeded expectations or were you coming in with a bit of confidence?
SAM EASTERBROOK: I was coming in with confidence. I was playing good back in college and so I know that if I'm on my game I can beat anyone. That's the mindset I got to take for the rest of it.
I mean, three games way, so...
Q. Yeah. And the college scene is super competitive. Of you'll know a lot of these guys.
SAM EASTERBROOK: I played with Stefan this year in college and the guys I played with in the stroke play I played with in college.
Q. Yeah. Last day still a long way to go, but does the mind start to think a bit what's on offer?
SAM EASTERBROOK: Not really. You just got to take one game at a time. It's the whole thing about not worried about score, where it's just beating the guy you're playing. One game at a time. We'll see.
Q. Nice kind of scout this morning, Guus Lafeber; that was another good game.
SAM EASTERBROOK: Yeah, it was. He was good. He was steady. Yeah, I managed to hold some putts in that game which sort of turned the tide. Yeah, that was a good game, too. Good day.
Q. Have your rest, good man. Cheers.
SAM EASTERBROOK: Yeah, thank you. Appreciate it.
