Q. A battle of the Walker Cup teammates. You've won 3&2. Just talk us through that tussle.

STUART GREHAN: Look, I always knew it was going to be a really tough match. I know Eliot so well at this stage, and we played so much golf together, so I knew it was going to be a really tough game, but I played really well.

I don't know what score it was, maybe 5- or 6-under par. I'm pretty pleased with my day's work.

Q. You stamped your authority pretty early on the first key holes?

STUART GREHAN: I kind of made a mess of the first and made a 5, but then I eagled the 2nd and birdied the 3rd. So that kind of got me going. Then yeah, just kind of kept making a few birdies.

Yeah, my game is pretty solid and pretty happy. Yeah.

Q. How did you make that eagle on 2?

STUART GREHAN: I drove it over the green actually and then chipped it in. It was always going to be pretty close, just a drop in the front door. So it was nice to get that.

Q. Nice match play sucker punch that.

STUART GREHAN: Yeah, Eliot was already into 6 feet, and obviously the chip-in was very nice, and that kind of got me momentum going in from there.

Q. Absolutely. When you see that draw, I mean, that's golf. It can get drawn against good players, but was it almost a bit of a shame to come across him early?

STUART GREHAN: Yeah, I think so. Yeah, we both spoke about that last night. I think it is a bit of a shame. Look, you're always going to come across someone during the week, but just because we played foursomes together and all that sort of stuff. Look, it is what it is. That's it.

Q. That's probably an advantage as well. You knew each other's game so well.

STUART GREHAN: Yeah, exactly. Yeah, I knew he's always going to play well, and he's a great putter, so I knew he's going to hole a couple, which he did. I holed a couple as well. Just got the better of him today.

Q. Getting a good test like that in the first match, that's what you kind of want, isn't it? There's no resting on your laurels.

STUART GREHAN: Exactly. I knew it was going to be tough, and yeah, I needed to produce good golf, and I did that, so delighted.
