THE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

June 16, 2026

Tomi Bowen

Hoylake, Merseyside, England, United Kingdom

Quick Quotes

Q. Tomi, that's quite a week of sailing through to the match play. A 64 and an eagle to finish the last. Just talk us through that round.

TOMI BOWEN: It was good. We played pretty conservative, I'd say, off the tee. There was probably a handful of drivers we hit. I hit a lot of good iron shots, closing the putts and having two hole-outs, so yeah, good.

Q. You had the hole-outs, talk us through that.

TOMI BOWEN: I hit a bad drive on 14, I think, left. I thought I could get something out, and it kind of came out left, kind of got pin high. Then I was left of the green with a bit of an awkward chip shot and dribbled it down the bank and dropped it on the edge.

Then I had 65 yards on the last and then, yeah, hit it. Wasn't really going for it. I was just trying to hit it on the green, and it happened to drop.

Q. Just a little wedge?

TOMI BOWEN: Yeah, just a flick of a 60, yeah.

Q. Have you had a couple of those down the years, hole-outs?

TOMI BOWEN: Not many, no. It was strange they came two within five, six holes, but it was good.

Q. It was obviously not as windy as yesterday. You could sense there was an opportunity there if played correctly.

TOMI BOWEN: Yeah, yesterday was tough. Felt like I didn't really play that bad. Just got punished with two skewered shots, but yeah, today I played nice. Just a lot of good iron shots, a little bit more target get golf, I suppose.

I know the greens were still firm, but there wasn't as much wind to worry about. So it was good.

Q. Focus switches now to a different format. How do you stack up in the match play style?

TOMI BOWEN: I mean, I just try and play. I feel like the strategy we have this week is good. So I don't think I need to change too much and then just see how it goes.

Q. You've played maybe four or five amateurs.

TOMI BOWEN: This is my fifth.

Q. What's been the record down the years?

TOMI BOWEN: Not great. This is only the second cut I've made. I made the cut in Ballyliffin a couple of years ago. I can't think where I made it to. I think maybe I won a game in the second round. I can't quite remember, but yeah, it's nice to make the cut.

Q. Next season just in general?

TOMI BOWEN: There's been a lot of good golf, but not quite a lot of good results. Yeah, it's been coming. So, yeah, it's been nice to see a good score come in today.

Q. Is Royal Liverpool a place -- have you played here a few times during the season?

TOMI BOWEN: Not really. I played here once maybe three or four years ago. Fortunate that -- so I'm a member down at Delamere Forest, and they play a couple games a year against Caldy, just down the road. One of the members, who are member at Caldy, agreed to take us on out on Thursday. So me, my caddie, and the two guys we played with a couple of weeks ago came out and played on Thursday and then played here obviously Saturday, so four times today.

Q. Nice bit of local knowledge always helps.

TOMI BOWEN: Yeah, it helps a lot. It was very good of them to take me out.
