THE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

June 16, 2026

Wilhelm Ryding

Hoylake, Merseyside, England, United Kingdom

Quick Quotes

Q. Nice to the get the job done in style?

WILHELM RYDING: Yes, I’m very happy. I’ve played very well. The key to success has been playing smart. I’ve not hit a lot of drivers. I’ve mostly been hitting 2-irons off the tee just to avoid the bunkers.

I think I’ve been in only one bunker, and that was a greenside bunker. In this type of golf, if you hit all the fairways, then you’ll have plenty of opportunities. I’ve been good out of the rough when I did miss a fairway, and my putting has been good. It’s all added up to a good couple of days. I’m just going to stick to my game and believe in myself.

Q. You’ve had 14 birdies in two days. Those figures would be good in match play.

WILHELM RYDING: That would be pretty good, yes. Hopefully keep it going. I enjoy match play golf, even though I lost in the first round of this event last year.

Q. If you were the No 1 seed, there may be a target on your back.

WILHELM RYDING: I don’t look at it that way. The rest can be scared because my game is hot. I’ve been playing some good golf recently, and I’m going to keep playing good golf.

Q. Any previous experience of these courses before?

WILHELM RYDING: Not really, but I’ve always loved links golf. When I was maybe 15, we came over here and played in the area and went up to Royal Lytham, too, so I’m used to this place.
