New York Knicks
Game 5: Postgame
New York Knicks 94, San Antonio Spurs 90
Q. Congratulations, Landry. How does it feel to be able to put the 0-0 mindset down?
LANDRY SHAMET: It feels really good. It's grueling. It's a long season. A lot of challenges presented. A lot is required from you. Having to carry that approach every night is obviously the difficulty in winning the championship, the marathon, if you will.
So feels great. Found another way to get a really tough win. Just really proud of this group and excited to celebrate and kick our feet up for a little while and enjoy this. This is special.
Q. Mike always talks about your defense. I wanted to know, do you remember when in your basketball career did you decide that's the kind of player you wanted to be?
LANDRY SHAMET: I think you have to adjust as you come into the league. That wasn't really my calling card when I was a rookie and my first couple years. If you want to survive and stay around, you've got to get better. Your role changes and your job changes a little bit, and you've got to buy in and understand what's needed of you.
So kind of just the journey of my career and grateful to have that have been my role this year.
Q. Congrats on the title. Just wanted to talk about Jalen putting you guys on his back tonight offensively, 45 points in a clinching NBA Finals game. It's not something you see always.
LANDRY SHAMET: Yeah, we owe him. We weren't great offensively tonight, but he is generationally great offensively.
So there's really not a whole lot to say. We all saw it. He carried us in a lot of different ways. What he does, it's not really a surprise to us anymore, being his teammates. But nights like tonight, you've got to look at it and really appreciate it.
Unbelievable performance by him, and he obviously deserves all the flowers coming his way.
