Quick Quotes
Q. Obviously you had a great round today. What was working for you out there?
TAYLOR PENDRITH: I drove the ball really nicely today, put the ball in the fairways a lot. I hit it really nice most of the day. I had a lot of really good looks that I wasn't able to make, but kind of made the bonus ones, which it all evens out, I guess. To birdie 17, 18 feels good and caps off a good day.
Q. You just mentioned that you had back-to-back birdies to finish your round. How important is that heading into the weekend?
TAYLOR PENDRITH: It's huge. It's just a little more confidence, and dinner will taste a little bit better. But 17, I made a big long putt, so that was kind of a bonus. It's a really difficult hole, so any time you make a 3 there is huge.
And 18 was playing downwind today. I hit a really nice drive and hit a big pitching wedge to 40 feet and was able to lag it down the hill and 2-putt. So, yeah, it's a great finish to a good day.
Q. You're tied for low Canadian with Matthew Anderson. How does it feel to be in that position to contend at our National Open?
TAYLOR PENDRITH: Yeah, it feels great. Obviously we were all inspired by Nick a couple years ago, and it feels nice to be in the mix. There will be a lot of Canadian support out there this weekend and hopefully I can have a good couple days.
Q. Ryan Fox told us earlier today that the wind was gusting, but it's gusting in the right direction, it's pushing drives the way you wanted them to go. Did you find that this afternoon?
TAYLOR PENDRITH: Yeah, definitely on the back nine I thought the long holes were playing downwind. 13's just a really difficult hole, it's playing in and off the left. So that's a really hard tee ball. But the first three, 1, 2, 3 was in and off the left, which the fairway slopes left-to-right so they're just difficult fairways to hit. They are birdie holes, I would say, they're all wedges, and a par-5 on 1, but I think this is the prevailing wind here and a wind that I've played a lot, so yeah I felt good with it.
Q. What do you have to do to keep climbing the leaderboard tomorrow and Sunday?
TAYLOR PENDRITH: Hit the ball in the fairway, number one, and get the putter hot. I'm not sure what the weather looks like, but there's a lot of birdie chances if you can control your wedges and get the ball in the fairway first. But you got to roll the putts in.
