RBC CANADIAN OPEN

June 12, 2026

Sam Burns

Caledon, Ontario, Canada

TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley (North Course)

Quick Quotes

Q. (No microphone.)

SAM BURNS: We were a little in between clubs there. Just really hard to get the ball right. With how much down wind it is, you try taking speed off and you get big skips. Fortunate to make that one. But, yeah, I think the conditions were obviously pretty tough today and so pretty pleased with how I played.

Q. I would think most normal people would think if you have a 25-mile-per-hour wind behind you it's going to make it easier. In reality it's yes and no.

SAM BURNS: Yeah, it's all dependent on the shot, I think. For that shot for example, you're hitting to an elevated green -- when you start getting it blowing that hard it kind of knock the ball down and takes spin off, so it makes it that much more difficult to control the distance. Yeah, just felt like with the other one the wind just kind of gusted, but overall I think it was a solid day.

Q. Six birdies. That's pretty good in this wind.

SAM BURNS: Yeah, I would say. I think anywhere in that 2- to 3-under par is a pretty good score today, so certainly pleased.

Q. So you're done early, in Toronto you got the Yankees/Blue Jays, you got a World Cup game, you got Canada against Bosnia. Are you going to get some tickets?

SAM BURNS: I have a two year old, so there won't be any of that going on. We'll go back home.

Q. Nice way to finish up with a big putt on the last hole. How were the conditions and how did you battle through with this stiff wind?

SAM BURNS: When I left here last night I was thinking it would be nice and calm this morning. I showed up it and it was blowing 30 already. I knew it was going to be a difficult day and felt like if we could shoot anything under par would be a pretty good round of golf.

Q. What was the strength of your game today?

SAM BURNS: I don't think anything really stood out. I feel like I tried to be pretty patient and just tried to execute on the shot that we were picking. Feel like overall everything was pretty solid.

Q. Obviously, we have no idea how the afternoon wave's going to do, but how does it feel to be ending the second round tied for first?

SAM BURNS: It feels good. I would have taken that to start the week. I feel like I'm in a good spot even if someone runs out there and gets to double digits. I feel like I'm in a good spot.

Q. Are there any tweaks you would like to make or are you going to just carry forward with what you've been doing the first two rounds?

SAM BURNS: I think as a competitor you're always striving for more, so probably go practice a little bit. But I think overall I feel pretty good. Obviously this is a big stretch coming up, so try to get some rest in there as well.

Q. Your last three rounds here 62, 64, 67, you were talking about that having success here before doesn't really translate, but it seems like you like this golf course.

SAM BURNS: Yeah, no, I certainly do. I think, for whatever reason, it seems to fit my eye. But at the end of the day I think you got to go out there and play well and execute when you have to.
