RBC CANADIAN OPEN

June 12, 2026

Matthew Anderson

Caledon, Ontario, Canada

TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley (North Course)

Quick Quotes

Q. How did it feel out there for you today?

MATTHEW ANDERSON: It was good. Definitely had some juices flowing. It was good. I played a pretty solid round of golf, I would say. It's windy out there, so you're going to hit some good shots that aren't going to quite get rewarded or end up where you think they are, and your misses are going to be a little exaggerated. You have to hit some quality shots out there, tee balls and approaches. Yeah, no, I thought I played pretty similarly, just didn't really get too much to fall. I was good inside short range, just didn't really get too much to go in today, but hopefully they go in this weekend.

Q. What's it mean to you to be playing this weekend at the National Open, PGA TOUR event?

MATTHEW ANDERSON: Yeah, it's awesome. Listen, obviously I was here last year doing this, it was obviously a really cool experience. I'm looking forward to doing it again. I'll draw on some of that experience, for sure.

Q. As well as you played through 36 holes, did you even anticipate being where you are right now?

MATTHEW ANDERSON: For sure. No, I definitely, I knew I had the game to contend in this tournament. I play this course a ton. I practice here a lot. I played, I don't know how many round I played on the North Course, but I've hit those tee shots and approaches a lot, the greens I know pretty well. So I'm comfortable out here, and I knew that my game coming in was trending and I could kind of play well at any point. Obviously it's nice to be in this position, but not a surprise by any sort, yeah.

Q. If I understand it, did this all start with your grandmother giving you a plastic club at two?

MATTHEW ANDERSON: Yeah, yeah. I was hitting plastic clubs in my grandmother's living room at two. Yes, I had a club in my hand very young, we'll say that.

Q. Did they wait to -- at one point suddenly were they afraid you were going to break things and then they sent you outdoors?

MATTHEW ANDERSON: I mean, not -- I don't really remember too much. But I remember at a certain age, I don't know, maybe seven or eight, I was like hitting plastic balls in the backyard, and I got a little too strong and started hitting 'em over the fence and then they wouldn't be too happy. But, yeah.

Q. Your first time on the course was at four?

MATTHEW ANDERSON: Four, yeah. I played with my dad, yeah, when I was four.

Q. Do you feel more of the crowd surging a little bit today?

MATTHEW ANDERSON: For sure. I definitely had some more followers from the beginning, which was awesome. I through on the Jays jersey at The Rink, which definitely did pretty well. Unfortunately, that putt just missed low, but you can't make 'em all. But that was fun, for sure. Definitely a fun atmosphere.

Q. When you got to 14 you had the crowd singing O Canada. What was it like to have so much of the crowd behind you?

MATTHEW ANDERSON: No, it's great. They started, on the weekend last year they started singing the National Anthem, so I was happy to hear it on Friday. Yeah, it's awesome, just kind of giving a few people high-fives and just kind of hearing the support, like it's just a really cool environment. I'm not a regular on the PGA TOUR, but definitely unlike any other PGA TOUR event, right, so it's cool.
