New York Knicks
Practice Day
Q. OG, kind of a two-part thing. One, has there been one particular person, like someone famous or just someone really important to you, that you've heard since you've hit this shot? Number two, what's it kind of been like the last day plus after hitting -- I mean, it's going to go down as maybe one of the most iconic shots in history.
OG ANUNOBY: Definitely heard from a lot of people. Just because it's the championship -- my Raptors teammates I played with in the past, they hit me up. They were really excited for me, happy for me.
What was the second part you said?
Q. What's it like knowing you -- people are already considering it one of the great sports moments in New York history, up there with Don Larsen's perfect game. What is it like to know that play is already going to be remembered forever?
OG ANUNOBY: It's really cool. Like you said, just everyone has been telling me how much it means, and obviously I can see how much it means. It's just really cool to be a part of it, and I'm very grateful.
Q. 11th of June, 2026, is Ogugua Anunoby Fan Appreciation Day in New York. What does it mean to you, on top of feeling cool and excited?
OG ANUNOBY: It's amazing. It's really cool. It's really exciting. Yeah, it's just special. It's amazing.
Q. As a follow to all of that, there's been so much buzz about your play at the end of the game. How many texts did you have on your phone after Game 4?
OG ANUNOBY: I don't know exactly the number. It's a lot, though. I'm not sure how many.
Q. You went from being one of the best two-way players in the NBA to yet another level of excellence in these playoffs. What does it take to go from great to excellent? Was it more a mental preparation, physical, technical?
OG ANUNOBY: I think, like you said, a lot of preparation off the court with film study and all those things. On the court, just being in the gym, working on my game, trying to grow and improve throughout the year or whatever. Just always trying to get better.
Also, just opportunity. More opportunity to show more and do more things. And just being ready for it when you get the opportunity, just from the hard work.
Q. It looks like just from the data Knicks fans are already pouring in in terms of being able to travel to this game for Game 5, buying tickets off of Spurs fans. In the moment when you're in what's supposed to be hostile territory and you're hearing your own fans cheer for you on the road, what does that feel like, and how does that boost show up in a game when you are hear the fans like that?
OG ANUNOBY: Support, it means everything to us. We know we have the best fans in the world. They support, and they travel. They show up. They're loud, they're rowdy, they're excited. It's amazing. We all feel that. We feed off their energy.
Q. Yesterday started the World Cup. I know how big of a fan of soccer you are. I want to show you this picture [shows picture on his phone]. What does it mean for you? If you know, who's the guy on the right?
OG ANUNOBY: [Diego] Maradona. Yeah, Maradona is a legend. It's a really cool picture. It's just really, really cool. It's special.
Q. (No microphone).
OG ANUNOBY: I mean, it's ironic and iconic. It's cool.
