Quick Quotes
Q. Obviously a great start to the week for you. 5-under par. What was working out there?
SAM RYDER: I think honestly I felt like all facets really felt like they were pretty solid. I hit the driver better, I felt like than I have been. I had more command over it. I was hitting some draws and some cuts, able to put myself in the fairway. Then when I missed a couple, I was able to save pars. And the putter, I made over a hundred feet of putts, too, so that's always nice. Greens were good. I didn't feel like I made anything crazy, like any 40, 50 footers or anything like that, but I made a lot of the putts I felt like that I could make and all in all just having a couple round-saving pars and taking advantage when I got 'em, it was just a solid round of golf.
Q. Are you the sort that sort of watches the leaderboard when you're the clubhouse leader or do you just go about your business and see what tomorrow brings?
SAM RYDER: Yeah, it's Thursday morning still or afternoon, but the morning wave. So you don't really get too far ahead at this point. I think that's something that I'll probably start thinking about more later on if I can continue to stay near the top of the leaderboard. I mean, you're always aware of where you're at I feel like once you start having a good round and cameras are showing up and then you kind of know that you're having a good day. But it's just too early in the week for me to worry about that too much.
Q. Obviously there's some rain this morning, I expect conditions will firm up, how do you think that will affect how the course plays in the afternoon?
SAM RYDER: Yeah, I honestly, I thought that it was going to be -- the forecast called for some wind and actually not really so much rain this morning, so I thought it was going to be kind of difficult. We got rain, which was tough, but it was pretty brief, and then it was actually pretty calm. Then, obviously receptive. As we were finishing the round, the wind was starting to gust and pick up a little bit. So if the wind can pick up and the course can firm out a little bit it's going to be challenging. Any time the wind blows it's gusty, so it's just going to be hard to be precise into those greens.
Q. I'm not sure, are you much of a soccer fan are you paying attention to the fact that there's an international tournament?
SAM RYDER: Oh, yeah, I'm aware of it. I'm not, I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan, but I will watch like the World Cup when teams are playing. It doesn't really matter who is playing. Obviously I'll watch the U.S. because I'm American. I know there's games in Toronto this weekend, right? When do they start?
Q. Tomorrow. Canada plays in Toronto tomorrow.
SAM RYDER: Okay, there you go. So I was aware of that. But I hadn't really made any plans to go down there and watch.
Q. I guess it hasn't happened since '94 when the U.S. last hosted, right, that a PGA TOUR event was in the same city, I'm not even sure if that was the case.
SAM RYDER: I didn't know that. Interesting.
Q. Can you just talk about your career and about today.
SAM RYDER: My career?
Q. Yeah. In terms of high points, low points.
SAM RYDER: PGA or?
Q. PGA.
SAM RYDER: Okay, PGA, I mean, I guess high points are, I mean, I think being a rookie in 2017 and 2018. I think the high points were John Deere and when I kept my job. And then kind of settled in. High points were I made a hole-in-one at Waste Management on 16. That was a pretty high point. Other than that, I mean, no other wins, but I've had, we've also all had lows, missed cuts, and grinding to keep my card. So generally it's just not that exciting, really.
