A. ANISIMOVA/L. Siegemund
6-1, 6-3
THE MODERATOR: Congrats, Amanda. Through that in straight sets. Just give us your assessment of the match out there.
AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, no, I thought it was a great match for me, and I feel like I really started well, also, which is important, being the first match on the grass. It's never easy. Also had a really tricky opponent today that I never played before, so I was really ready for it.
Yeah, I'm happy with the way I played and the way I managed the weather. Overall, just happy and looking forward to the next one.
THE MODERATOR: Questions.
Q. You mentioned there that it felt good being back on the grass? Does it feel increasingly natural now playing on this surface?
AMANDA ANISIMOVA: I mean, yeah. I obviously love playing on the grass and had a great season last year. I think it definitely takes me a few days to kind of find my rhythm and have my game come together on it, but I feel like today was a big positive for me.
Yeah, I always love playing on it. I know it's not a long season, so I really try to make the most of it.
Q. Why do you think your game matches up? What has got so much better on it? Is it the movement, the low bounce that you can deal with?
AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Well, obviously that's things that I have to keep in mind, right, the low bounce, staying low. I just think my aggressive game style and the way I like to play is a good matchup for the grass.
I feel like that's shown before that I feel like I can really take advantage of my game on this surface. So hopefully it clicks for me again this year and have a great run.
Q. Since you're in England, are you a tea drinker or are you more of a coffee person?
AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Oh, that's the one thing that I love about London is the coffee culture. I feel like any coffee shop you come into, they have incredible coffee.
Yeah, I'm definitely someone who drinks a lot of it. I do like tea, but definitely more of a coffee person.
Q. Any favorite coffee spots in London?
AMANDA ANISIMOVA: I don't know any of the names of the coffee shops, but I'm, like, Oh, that looks cute. I'll go there. And then that one looks nice, I'll go there. It's kind of like that.
Q. I just wondered, with the rain break, how difficult it is? You were definitely on top, and when that happened, how difficult is it to get that momentum back into your game? What do you do during the rain break?
AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, it's definitely something that you try not to think about, like losing your rhythm. The one thing I try to do is make sure I'm warmed up when I go back out there and try to do everything that I was doing, make sure I don't change anything if everything was going in the way I wanted things to go, which it was today.
That was kind of my mindset. It's just stick to what you're doing, keep doing the things that I practiced the last few days. Yeah, I mean, it's tough to have that break, but as long as you're ready to go back out, it's out of our control, and it definitely happens. It happens a lot here this week, so I'll be ready for more rain delays if they happen.
Q. Overall you had a really positive grass court season last year. I just wonder if you're trying to replicate the things you were doing last year or if there are some specifics you're trying to really improve in your game?
AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, I'd say similar to last year, I'd say the way that I was moving on the grass last year and the way I was reacting to a lot of shots, which is important on the grass, because you get a lot of tricky bounces. It's kind of unpredictable tennis when you compare to the hard and clay.
So, yes, just to make sure I'm ready for every shot, make sure I'm really light on my feet. I think that's the most important thing. But, yeah, I try to keep it simple.
Q. I think you're playing Iva Jovic next. I wondered what you make of her game and if you know her as a person, that kind of thing.
AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, I feel like she's been playing some really great tennis. She's also been a very consistent player. She's very stable, especially at such a young age. It's been really impressive to watch her and see her come along.
Never played her, so it will be an exciting match. Looking forward to it. I always look forward to playing a player that I have never played before. I feel like you can always learn something from it. Yeah, I'm sure it's going to be a great match. Yeah, she's very impressive.
Q. She just told me how much she likes playing on grass, as well. Do you see her as having a game that could thrive on this surface?
AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, for sure. She stays very low when she plays and has very compact shots, like her technique is great, and I feel like that's a really big thing for the grass is having, you know, very quick reactions.
Yeah, I feel like she can do really well here, so we'll see. I don't really remember last year how she did, but I feel like she can really do some damage, so I hope she does well.
