Kiara Romero

Pacific Palisades, California, USA

The Riviera Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Kiara Romero, birdies on 16 and 17 to shoot minus 3. Right now good enough for top 10 and Low Amateur. Talk to me about the round.

KIARA ROMERO: I think I was just kind of -- I went out there, and I was like, you know, I'm just going to try to shoot as many birdies as I can and attack the pins in the smartest way possible obviously. This course is set up really hard for a Sunday round.

Yeah, I just did my best to kind of put myself in the best position to make these birdies out here. Honestly I felt like there was no pressure out there to do anything. Kind of just went out there with nothing to lose.

Q. You made the weekend last year. What can you take from your previous U.S. Open experiences that you took today on Sunday to shoot that low round?

KIARA ROMERO: I remember last year made the cut then shot one of the worst rounds on Saturday. Then on Sunday shot the lowest round of the day.

I think going through that experience, like knowing that you can have this big of a difference between one day and the next, like I genuinely played like the worst round of my life on Saturday and then played one of the best rounds on Sunday.

There's no reason to it. That's just how golf works. I definitely learned how to be patient and just kind of not try to change anything and just trust my game and knowing that the birdies will come eventually.

Q. It's not official yet, but right now you are Low Amateur. What would that mean to be Low Amateur at the U.S. Open?

KIARA ROMERO: It would mean a lot. I feel like I've been putting a lot of hard work into my game these last few years. With me trying to get my Tour card through the league program, this event got me to more points.

So I'm just really proud of myself for doing that and not putting any pressure out there when I was playing. I didn't think about any of this. I kind of just went out there for the experience and just tried to have as much fun as I could. It was a great time with my coach on the bag. We're always having fun out there. It was really cool.

Q. You're going to be in L.A. next week again, in Bel Air for the Curtis Cup. What are you looking forward to from that and what can you take into next week for the team comp?

KIARA ROMERO: I'm just really excited to play for my country. It's my first time competing in a Curtis Cup. I know a lot of girls on the team, so it's going to be really fun. It's always fun playing in a team format and kind of seeing golf in a different way. Not just me, me, me all the time, but we've got a country to represent and some players, some teammates to represent as well.
