U.S. WOMEN'S OPEN

June 7, 2026

Maja Stark

Pacific Palisades, California, USA

The Riviera Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. All right, Maja Stark, up and down on 18 from the trees, one-putt par to secure minus-2 for the tournament, even for the day and a top 10. Talk to me about what went into those shots.

MAJA STARK: I was pretty pissed when I saw how bad my lie was. After the first shot. But I thought, unsure it's the U.S. Open. It's supposed to be like that. If you hit bad shots you should be penalized.

So, yeah, just had to chop it out there and then I just thought, you know, let's just go for it and I just tried to get it as close to the pin as possible. But then felt like I had just a pretty almost straight putt uphill and I just thought, hit it hard and just go for it.

Q. And then your week as the defending U.S. Open champion is officially over. Talk me through this week, how it's been, what you liked and then kind of moving forward for the rest of the season?

MAJA STARK: I just love U.S. Opens. It's all so special. Coming in and defending I thought obviously would have loved to do that, but what are the odds of that happening again?

I did feel very nervous on the first day, so I'm really happy with the way I played since then and I've just really enjoyed the week.
