TV Quick Quotes
Q. Well, Nelly, you've done it. You said after the runner-up finish last year at Erin Hills it made you hungrier for more. How does the lifelong dream that you've had since being a little girl of winning the U.S. Women's Open compare to this moment of holding that trophy?
NELLY KORDA: I feel like I'm in a dream. Gosh, I just can't even explain how much this means to me. Thank you all for coming out and cheering me on. It really brings tears to my eyes. (Applause.)
I want to thank my whole team, my family. My sister who has been grinding with me before my rounds, after my rounds on the grip. And then Kim who has kept my body together. Jay, who is my other half on the golf course. I wouldn't be here without you. We have all of our wins together.
Then everyone, my parents, my fiance, Casey, Chris, thank you guys for coming out and staying all week. I have literally tears coming down my eyes or down my face because I feel like I'm just so lucky: Lucky to have all of your guys' support and everyone's support right here in my corner.
So thank you. (Applause.)
Q. You mentioned Jess. She really helped out with that grip this week. We've spoken a bit about that. You mentioned your fiance Casey. I know he's told you to be a bit more positive. And you employed the likes of Mikaela Shiffrin this week and put some positive notes on your run on your bathroom mirror. Can you reveal some of the mantras that led you to this?
NELLY KORDA: I wrote one today and I said, whatever happens, happens; just give it a 100%. And that's what I did.
Q. And it worked out. Let's speak about 18. Two feet ten inches for the U.S. Women's Open trophy. What was going through your head during that putt?
NELLY KORDA: Don't make me relive that. I'm sure I'll see a lot of videos of that, but a nice ice cream swirl to cap off the day.
Q. This has been a wonderful year for you already. Let's speak about this event. Everybody says venues matter. Where you win your U.S. Women's Open matters. What is it like to hold this trophy on the 18th green of the Riviera Country Club?
NELLY KORDA: Just a dream. It's such an iconic golf course, event. I mean, it was in immaculate condition, so thank you guys. Just a dream to win here. You know, the golf course holds so much history, and to have my name alongside so many great champions is a dream come true.
Q. Speaking of great champions you have joined Annika Sorenstam and In Bee Park as World No. 1s to win the U.S. Women's Open. Congratulations to Nelly Korda. (Applause.)
