THE MODERATOR: Questions in French.
Q. How are you feeling ahead of this French Open? You didn't get great results of late. How do you think you can restart with this great event?
CORENTIN MOUTET: Well, to be honest, when it comes to how I feel, just like my results show, I've felt better in the past. So I'm not very confident. I've felt more confident before considering my results.
That being said, it's a case of being able to play well in all circumstances. It is the first time that I'm making it with a good number, but it's the first time I'm getting into Roland Garros with results that are not great.
So I need to have a good pace. I'm training well. I'm focused, and we're working well, so it's a case of waiting for results to show up.
Q. Any reason for the way you're feeling, because you were doing well at the end of last season? How can you explain it?
CORENTIN MOUTET: There could be plenty of explanations, but later last week I really pushed myself beyond my limits. My body went beyond its limits, and I've paid the price for it earlier this year. Maybe I'm still paying for it.
But I really wanted to play in the Davis Cup. It was really important to me. Without the Davis Cup, I would probably have stopped my season and made different choices, but as I just said, it was really essential for me. It was priority number 1.
I wanted to honor my country in the best possible way, which is what I tried to do. It was probably not the best decision for my body, and I'm paying a price for it this year. But had I to make the same choice, I would do it all over again, because I'm part of a team.
So I've decided to put the team first, which explains why I've made sacrifices in my personal career. There are choices, I don't regret them, but maybe it explains how I feel at the moment.
Q. When it comes to the protest and the request for more prize money, are you part of it? Do you monitor it? Do you plan to spend only 15 minutes? Can you tell us more?
CORENTIN MOUTET: I'm not part of any movement. It is an individual sport. If there was actually a movement, we would have known of it earlier. We all have our own interests, and my interest at the moment is to play better than I'm doing at the moment. Sports has to been put before everything else.
Q. We all remember that you were injured at the wrist. Apparently Alcaraz is suffering the same injury now. What is the future for Alcaraz, in your opinion, because you've experienced the same? Is it very difficult to make a comeback from this injury? Is it difficult to heal? How long did it take for you to make it back? It was not the same hand. It was your right hand, but you're left-handed, so you are able to play, but he's right-handed.
CORENTIN MOUTET: What's your question then?
Q. It's long. You have doubts, ups and downs, when making it back with such an injury.
CORENTIN MOUTET: It is difficult making it back from any injury for any player. Even though it's the same pathology, every player will have a different history and will train differently and will have different therapy.
So it's very difficult to know what a given injury means for one player, because when not in their head, we don't know what happened exactly. So this is not really my concern, speaking about other players.
What I'm saying is that I'm not entitled to have any opinion around Alcaraz. He has a great team to manage this. When it comes to me, it took me a year and a half to be able to get back to my actual level for my backhands, but I was still able to play.
So we try and find and implement solutions to get the most of a difficult situation, which is exactly what I tried to do. So I wish him the best, of course.
Q. You said you had felt better in the past, but you are still seeded. So how do you feel getting in this tournament?
CORENTIN MOUTET: It means that I'm getting in a bit later, which is something I've always wanted. A player who went through qualifications can potentially have three more games played before.
I haven't won a lot of games this year, but paradoxically, it means the rhythm changes, because I can get as much points with one less game. So it is a different situation.
I have time to adapt more so than I would have thought, but it's always more comfortable to be ranked 30 or 32, when in doubt, then having a different ranking. I think all in all my body is doing well, and this is what actually matters.
