ROLAND GARROS

May 28, 2026

Martin Landaluce

Paris, France

Press Conference

M. LANDALUCE/V. Kopriva

1-6, 2-6, 6-4, 7-5, 6-0

THE MODERATOR: Martin, congratulations. Another hard-fought victory for you. Could you please talk us through the match.

MARTIN LANDALUCE: It was a really hard match. I started really, I think, tired of something, I don't know what happened. Mentally I was really out of the match. I tried my best to be there, to shout, to try to bring the energy right in the match.

I did it on the third set. It was the last chance to do it, but I tried my best. I was playing really bad and shouting with the team, trying to connect with them, to connect with the crowd, take in the energy. Little by little, I started playing better. I started making doubts on the opponent.

So really happy on how I managed a really bad match by myself to end doing a really good match, really good level. So really proud of what I did today, because things were going really bad, and I maintained, trying to be positive, to be humble, 6-1, 6-2, and really focusing on the next points, focusing on being positive and tried my best.

So really proud of how I managed things today and how I ended the three last sets with winners and doing my best level.

THE MODERATOR: Questions in English.

Q. You and a number of players who are about the same age who played NextGen, having a good amount of success and really pushing guys who are older than you, what do you think it is about the way you all play and approach the game that allows you to compete with people who have much more experience and have had more success for a while, even though you're younger than them?

MARTIN LANDALUCE: I think tennis is changing little by little. I think the NextGen, we are bringing different things that actual tennis have, so I think it's quite positive for the sport, because it's evolution, evolution.

I think we are very confident, because we are seeing each other doing great results against the top. So I think that makes us believe on ourselves, and in my case, have been doing good results for these years in all the tours, have been improving, and I see a very good level on my side.

I think I can beat top guys, and I have been demonstrating myself these last months that I can do it. So as the other NextGens, I think I see myself with a really good future and doing good things in the present.

Q. There's no Carlos obviously here and now Jannik is out. A lot of opportunity for a lot of people. Do you think of yourself as someone who should be talked about for going far into the tournament at this point and also think that the other players your age should also be considered in that conversation?

MARTIN LANDALUCE: I mean, in my case, two matches, two matches on fifth sets, so I think I cannot think longer than the next one, right now to enjoy the beautiful match I played today, and think about the next battle, because it's going to be a tough battle today.

Cerundolo, he was struggling with Sinner two sets down. I went to the match, and he also believing in himself. He did really good things today, so it's going to be a tough battle, for sure, physically also tough battle.

And I think, yeah, all the players, they can do well. These conditions are really hot. It's tough to play here. You have to be very mentally prepared, very physically prepared. So I think there can be surprises like today, they have.

And I don't know what to expect. I just want to play the next match, to enjoy these days here, and I know it's going to be a battle. So yeah, for sure, there are many players that can do well in the tournament, and I will try to be one of those.
