ROLAND GARROS

June 1, 2026

Diane Parry

Paris, France

Press Conference

M. CHWALINSA/D. Parry

6-3, 6-2

THE MODERATOR: Diane, congratulations on the great run that you've had at Roland Garros up until today, but could you please tell us a bit about your thoughts on the match and how it went for you?

DIANE PARRY: It's tough just after the match. I'm naturally disappointed, because you always want more. When you are in the round of 16 at home, you always want to go further.

It was a great opportunity for me today. So, yeah, I'm really disappointed, but congrats to her. She played really well. She did her match, and I wasn't good enough, so that's it.

THE MODERATOR: Questions in English.

Q. Can I ask you where you are on your backhands at the moment? Are you still experimenting with the two-hander on the return, or is this now a permanent arrangement, and how do you feel it went across the whole tournament?

DIANE PARRY: Like I said the other day, I tried to adapt. It depends against the player I have at the day. I mean, if I feel good on that day, I can return with the two-handed backhand.

If the tactic is better to do a slice, I will do a slice, so it really depends. But, yeah, I will try to still work on it.

THE MODERATOR: Questions in French.

Q. I wanted to know how your opponent's shots were, because you had trouble getting into the game, right?

DIANE PARRY: Well, it was extremely difficult to play. There were very high balls. It was different from what I used to have in the last couple of games. The rebound is much higher in the central court, so I knew more or less what was going to happen, but trust me, it is not easy to play.

It's me. I just didn't know how to find the right solutions against her. I couldn't face the way she was playing. She was a really solid player today.

I think she's a really smart player. She always tries to hit her balls differently, so it's really difficult for me to anticipate. So it wasn't my day.

Q. So what happened on your forehand today for having so many unprovoked errors? I have another question. So did you have a physical issue at some point?

DIANE PARRY: Well, of course, I'm a little tired now, but it's my opponent's way of playing that really got to me. I just wasn't able to use my forehand to the best of my ability.

I knew that it was just responding. There was no way I could win, because she's very strong. So I was trying to just do something with playing really to the best of my ability, but it was too difficult. I didn't have enough energy to be at the right place at the right time to return her shots.

So I think it was a combination of many factors that ended up with this rather negative result.

Q. So if there's anything that you will remember of this year, what is it?

DIANE PARRY: Well, it's not always easy to see the positive when you are so disappointed by losing a match. You always want to go further, obviously.

Well, it would have been amazing to play in the last eight at Roland Garros. Now I just have to really manage my feelings. I know that I wasn't able to seize all the opportunities.

But, then again, if one month ago anyone would have told me that I would make it all the way to round of 16, I would have said, Wow.

There are so many things. I just really need now to look at what I did and go further.

Q. Diane, you don't really show your emotions on the court. Don't you think that there might have been a moment where you could have just turned towards the audience? For example, I know it's against your nature, but maybe the public would have, you know, cheered for you, and it would have rattled your opponent?

DIANE PARRY: Well, I don't like to do that. If I don't have all the aces up my sleeves to play my best tennis, that's it.

I could have done it earlier. I mean, there were moments where it was a little more tense. I know that the atmosphere might have rattled my opponent, but today I know that my opponent wasn't rattled at all.

She was very sure of herself. She knew exactly how to play, and I didn't feel like turning to the audience today.

It's really difficult on the court, because you always want to go further, you want to give the audience what they're looking for, you want them to have the best time. I wasn't able to give it to them today.

Q. We know that the French Open is always very particular for the French. There's a lot of pressure, but it's great at the same time. So at a personal level, do you think you will not fall to that pressure? Was it that, or was it all your game today? What happened exactly?

DIANE PARRY: Well, it was very positive for me because it's a new thing. I was the last French at the French Open. Then again, it was something new for me. It was extremely exciting. I was very happy to be there, very eager, rather than feeling too much pressure.

Then again, I was feeling a little tired. Maybe I got frustrated faster than I normally would, and that can really make a difference, not to be able to stay calm, to find the right solutions. I paid the consequences.

Q. A couple of minutes ago you said that if anybody had told you a month ago that you'd be here today, you would have been very happy. What kind of perspective does it give you for the rest of the season over the next few months? Do you have a specific objective now?

DIANE PARRY: Well, I'm just going to rest now. I think my body and my head really needed to be able to start again.

I mean, the grass season is starting soon. I like the grass season. I really want to make it. Last year I made it all the way to the third round at Wimbledon, and I really want to be able to make it to the second week at Wimbledon this year.

That would allow me to have better ranking and be in the good draws. Obviously many things depend from that, but probably what I did here in Paris will help me in the next few weeks in terms of draws and being able to play with the best, and I hope that it will make me play better in the future.
