ERRANI-VAVASSORI/Dabrowski-King
4-6, 6-3, 10-4
THE MODERATOR: Sara, Andrea, well done. Where do you rank this achievement among the four Grand Slam crowns that you have already won together?
ANDREA VAVASSORI: Yeah, it's started to become a good habit, honestly (smiling). We are not taking for granted to win a Grand Slam. We are very happy, and to win back to back here is amazing. We love this tournament.
Sara played more final here than, I don't know, I think we have to see on the stats how many players played so many final in a court like Chatrier.
Yeah, it's tough to rank, because every one was very special. The first one in US Open, I have great memories. The first one here. The second one at US Open with a different format with all the singles players was very important for us to win that one.
Yeah, all are very special, and we try to do our best also on the grass season. That is the one that is the only final that I am missing, so I told her, we have to go deeper in Wimbledon too.
THE MODERATOR: Questions in English.
Q. Well done. Congratulations, again. A very simple question, but it takes a lot to win multiple Grand Slams together. Why do you think on court the partnership is very effective just to do that?
SARA ERRANI: I think we both very competitive. We are good friends, so much good friends outside the court. I think we have many things similar.
I mean, we love tennis, we love to study the match, we love to talk about the tactic. I think maybe, I don't know if the other couples do that, but I think we are doing a great job.
We have so much fun playing, but we also love to win. So we go on court, we give everything, every point. I think that it shows up after.
Q. Anything to add?
ANDREA VAVASSORI: You know, I think that sometimes we were always saying in this tournament was we are lions, so we had to show that. We are trying to put a lot of energy, a lot of intensity in the game, and sometimes it's also when you are down, we have to do that, because put pressure on the opponents.
Like today, we were 4-0 down. It was very important to stay in the match, try something different. Also, the wind was very tough, because we were struggling. We warm up on the court with the roof, and then we started the match without the roof. Was completely different.
So we had to adapt together. Honestly, today we served better; me with the wind and she against the wind. We always do the opposite.
So we found a way to come back, and it was very important for the second set to come back in the first. Then super-tiebreak, we start really well. She did a great point, the first one. So we went 3-0 up in a few seconds, and was very important.
Q. Could you explain to us the success of Italian tennis? You are everywhere; you win everything. You give us the secret for French people?
SARA ERRANI: I think no secrets. I mean, we think we are just a group of people that love tennis, that I think everybody help the others.
So that, I think, maybe can be the key. Of course for the moment now, Italian tennis is going great. Is great to be a big group of people, you know.
In the tournament, we have fun together, we support each other. So it's amazing.
ANDREA VAVASSORI: As Sara said, I think, also, the human relations are very important in our sport. We always travel in the same tournaments, so to always see each other, have dinner sometimes, and also share something outside of the court is very important for us.
The Federation did an incredible job. I think was very important to create a TV channel only about tennis, SuperTennis, that a lot of people could watch without paying. That was a key for our country.
Then we always have so many tournaments, Challenger Tour, so giving a lot of chances to the young guys to play, not maybe investing money and playing outside of Italy. So a lot of things that came back together.
I think also I was two years in the Federation in Tirrenia, and for me, the system in the past was not great, because they were taking the kids when they were young.
I think right now it's much better, because the Federation is collaborating with the teams, so the young guys stay in their homes with their coach forever that give the racquet into their hand, so they can share a path together.
So they are putting a lot of coaches with experience to help the main coach, and I think that is the key, because you don't have to go away from your family. So you have the human values that are really important for a kid. Maybe also the school that can also help their brain to develop when they are younger.
Then when you are more mature, you can start to travel, and I think it's very important, because even if you are not making the tennis career, you still have a life in your house. So for me it's very important, that.
