A. ZVEREV/F. Cobolli
6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7, 6-1
THE MODERATOR: Flavio, bad luck today, but how do you look back at two amazing weeks and your first Grand Slam final?
FLAVIO COBOLLI: First of all, I want to say congrats to Sascha for this title. I think he deserve it. I also think today he deserve it more than me at the end of the match.
But I want to say also thanks to me for what I did in this two weeks. I never expect all my life that this kind of result, and I'm so proud of myself.
So now I just want to have a great smile and enjoy the night with friends, with the people that I love. It's always a final of Grand Slam, so I think in this room, no one expect a lot on me.
So I have to be proud of myself and try and try and try again.
THE MODERATOR: Questions in English.
Q. In the fifth set, did you feel particularly tired or exhausted after the two weeks you've had here?
FLAVIO COBOLLI: If I feel tired? You asked me if I felt tired?
Q. In the fifth set.
FLAVIO COBOLLI: Yeah, after the first set on the 6-4 on the tiebreak, I felt cramps on my calf. You know, I tried all my best on the changeover. I took all five minutes. But, you know, my calf was gone.
At the end after the second game also my quad, and I felt completely tired. You know, my body leave me on the court (smiling).
Q. Do you think because of all the physical struggles in the fifth set, you stopped believing quite early in the fifth set that it was possible? Also, I would like to know if when you say that he deserves more than you, why do you think so, because it was so close?
FLAVIO COBOLLI: Because at the end he won, so at the end he deserve more than me. But I also said he deserve because, you know, Sascha is here since ten years, and he made a lot of great result. I think he deserve a Grand Slam for what he did in his career.
Today I felt a little bit of pressure, maybe more than him. Also, I'm happy for how I played the first final of my Grand Slam. You know, it's never easy to play for the first time on this stage, on these kind of matches.
I mean, I said he deserve it more than me just because. Of course, he won, but also for what he did in his career.
Q. Flavio, congratulations on the run and everything you've done this fortnight. There was a slightly strange moment in the fourth set when Sascha was very slow to get up off of the bench before you served at 5-4, and he didn't get a time violation. Then he got a time violation at the end of that game because he was getting some meds from Marcelo in the corner. Were you aware that maybe he was going through some physical stuff as well? Did that give you any kind of comfort? I was surprised he only got one time violation, but I don't know if you felt that way.
FLAVIO COBOLLI: Yeah, I felt a bit that also him was tired. I think he took a little more time than me. Maybe he helped.
But like I said before, it's ten years that he's stand here, and maybe he knows better than me the crucial point what have to do, you know?
I think also he was more fresh than me on the fifth, so at the end was like this.
Q. The fourth set, the tiebreak, I mean, those last two points you missed an apparently easy volley, and then you hit an incredible forehand. What crossed through your mind, because you did --
FLAVIO COBOLLI: I just closed my eyes.
Q. In both points, or just in the first?
FLAVIO COBOLLI: Maybe in both (smiling). You know, I felt tired on the tiebreak, but I also felt -- I said on myself, Go, go for it, and maybe go in and you win the set, and then let's see what happen on fifth.
But, yeah, I just closed my eyes, I think. That sometimes helps.
Q. Well done, Flavio. Just wondered how close you think you are to fulfilling your potential? How close to your best level you are right now, and how much you think you'll be back in Grand Slam finals?
FLAVIO COBOLLI: This is something that you cannot predict, you know, but I will try. Like I said before, I will try and try and try, but when you reach the first final, why not the second?
At the end, I think I deserve to be here on these weeks. Maybe not in the next 10, 15 slams, but like I said also in the ceremony, I'm still young.
So I have to do work a lot, enjoy this journey, and maybe if I work and enjoy a mix of things, maybe I will reach again the final.
