Quick Quotes
Q. It's pretty incredible.
TYRRELL HATTON: Yeah, I'm trying to think. We had 176 pin, and I just gripped down, flighted 6-iron. I was just trying to get it somewhere around the green. Yeah, it just ended up coming out on a perfect line. It was definitely nice to see it finish that close to the hole.
Q. Did it clip anything?
TYRRELL HATTON: No.
Q. No?
TYRRELL HATTON: No, it didn't hit anything. Just flipped up there perfect. It was lovely.
Q. And 13, the approach shot at -- I think it was 13, right?
TYRRELL HATTON: Yeah, I felt a bit hard done that it ended up in the rough. I felt like I hit a pretty good tee shot there. At the start of the week, the wind on that hole was straight down, so the green was getting really firm. I was still worried about not really being able to hold the front.
I just hit lob wedge, like just tried to hit it high and hoped I got a soft bounce. Thankfully it did and finished pretty close again.
Q. Did you hear -- could you hear what Rahm did at 15? He almost had a hole-in-one.
TYRRELL HATTON: I heard some like loud cheering, but yeah, I mean, you're trying to kind of focus on your own thing. You do look at the leaderboard, and I saw that he was making a few birdies and, yeah, catching up. So I was just focused on trying to make birdies myself. Thankfully I was able to do that.
Q. You knew that putt at 16 was probably going to -- was the clincher basically? Obviously you still got --
TYRRELL HATTON: Well, I saw that -- making birdie on 16 was great, then I saw that Jon made birdie on 17. So I knew that the lead was back to one. Yeah, I couldn't have hit really a better second shot there.
It was not a great lie and then a decent bunker shot. I knew if I hole that putt, I've got a two-shot lead heading into the last depending what Jon does. Yeah, I didn't hit a great tee shot, but thankfully I had -- I could make 5 and still win.
I got pretty lucky the fact I had a clear gap although it was still a tricky shot to go through. Yeah, played that with a 5-iron. I was just trying to get somewhere around the green. Thankfully, hit a great chip shot, and it was almost stress-free.
Q. How much did you think about your family this week? Were they with you? Did you feel their presence there?
TYRRELL HATTON: I just tried to think of like no matter how today went, obviously I'll try my best, but it didn't change the fact that I'd be going home tonight and seeing them and back to dad duties, which is all new for me.
Yeah, I'm very proud to win. It feels amazing that I've done it in my first event as a dad. I look forward to celebrating with Emily when I get home. Yeah, giving her a bit of rest away from our daughter.
