Asterisk Talley

Pacific Palisades, California, USA

The Riviera Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Made some history.

ASTERISK TALLEY: Really?

Q. Yeah. Championship history. How does that feel?

ASTERISK TALLEY: Feels good. (Laughter.) I would've liked to extend that a little on the last hole, but it's okay.

Q. Yeah. You also had a couple of great -- you had par saves on 15, 16.

ASTERISK TALLEY: Oh, yeah. Yeah.

Q. (Indiscernible.)

ASTERISK TALLEY: Yeah, just feeling like the hole was so big today. Couldn't miss.

Q. What a feeling.

ASTERISK TALLEY: I know.

Q. Take us through the turnaround from yesterday, scrambling to make the cut and then the mindset this morning.

ASTERISK TALLEY: Yeah, I mean, after I made -- obviously it was a disappointing round yesterday, but after I made it, it was good. It was like, can't complain about a weekend tee time at Riv, right?

Then I just hit the putting green after. Didn't hit any balls. Just kind of rested. Did what needed work and then today the hole was just so big I couldn't miss.

Q. Yesterday as you watched the score as it was going between three and four, how does your head feel when you're watching that on the screen?

ASTERISK TALLEY: I mean, yeah. After hole 13 I was just like -- I think I was 3-over and I thought that was going to for sure be the cut. Then I was like, okay, I just need to shoot even on the last five or whatever, and then I doubled, and then it was like, okay, I need a couple birdies, and then it changed to four.

So I was like, I am going to need to get back to three or four, and then I made that birdie on 17 and I was just hoping for a good 18th hole. You know, can't complain.

Q. Were there some nervous moments yesterday afternoon as you're watching the scoring?

ASTERISK TALLEY: Yeah, stayed at four for a while when I was finishing up, so it was like it might be moving in the right direction for me.

Yeah, definitely that little six-footer on 17 to make birdie, I mean no one really expects to make birdie on the last hole, so it was kind of a must-make. Then missed the fairway on 18 and kind of had to get it in close and two putt.

I mean, it was okay.

Q. Just another notch on a remarkable young career.

ASTERISK TALLEY: Yeah. Well, thank you.

Q. Obviously two years ago was a great year.

ASTERISK TALLEY: Uh-huh.

Q. Low amateur, and now this year, again some great results.

ASTERISK TALLEY: Yeah.

Q. Been any big change in your game?

ASTERISK TALLEY: I don't think so. I'm trying to do the same thing. Obviously two years ago I was playing pretty well so I just kind of improve the little things as you go on.

You kind of mature and your golf game and mindset kind of just hopefully get better.

Q. How many people have come down from central California to watch you this week?

ASTERISK TALLEY: Quite a bit. They're kind of coming in and out watching certain days. A few have stayed all week and my parents and friends and family. So, yeah, it's been nice.

Q. Is that a little different when you're -- I mean, your U.S. Women's Open was at Lancaster and last year was Erin Hills, so away from home. Different this year being in California?

ASTERISK TALLEY: A little bit. I mean, I was really hoping to qualify for this one because it was in California. Once I qualified I was like, I'm here and I'm going enjoy it.

Yeah, it's great because it's so close and you can kind of just do whatever you want. You don't have to worry about when do I get to go home. You kind of just stay in the moment. It's pretty nice.

Q. Take us through 10. Drivable today. How much fun that was hole?

ASTERISK TALLEY: Oh, yeah, it was nice. Yeah, we kind of waited a bit on 9 and 10. Had a couple rulings. The wind was kind of going in my favor once we got there. I didn't want to go too far over to the back and then it kind of started hurting a little bit, so I was like, okay, this is kind of boosting my confidence.

And then I hit a really nice drive just down there, you know -- you always expect it to roll down into that little (indiscernible) past the flag. You don't expect it to stay on the green.

But, yeah, then it's just like a pretty easy chip from there and hit it to like three feet and made it.

Q. Hit driver on 10?

ASTERISK TALLEY: Uh-huh, yeah.

Q. Probably hit driver at 10 the first two days.

ASTERISK TALLEY: No, I hit 3-wood on the first day and it was a little too far for my liking, so then I hit a rescue wood the second day and (indiscernible.)

Q. Birdie on 6. Do you have a favorite hole out here?

ASTERISK TALLEY: I really do like 6, even though it is kind of a little tough with that bunker in the middle of the green. You kind of just -- it helps you make your target a little smaller I think. Kind of makes you hit a better shot.

Yeah, it was just anywhere but left on that hole is great, and then I hit it just like two feet left, a little bit past, so nice slider downhill. But it was okay.

Q. What club did you hit off the tee?

ASTERISK TALLEY: I had a seven I think.

Q. Two weeks here in LA for you.

ASTERISK TALLEY: Yeah.

Q. This week and next week, second Curtis Cup.

ASTERISK TALLEY: It's going to be super exciting, yeah. I'm super excited. Just a lot of good things to look forward to right now and I'm enjoying the moment right now and I'm kind of leaving next week to be next week. I'm sure I'm going to have so much fun so it's going to be great.

Q. What time did you leave this morning?

ASTERISK TALLEY: 6:45.

Q. Or what time was the wake-up call?

ASTERISK TALLEY: 6:00.

Q. Not as bad compared to the last one.

ASTERISK TALLEY: Yeah. It wasn't bad. We were waiting. The last team was going to be done at like 8:30 last night. I was like, I hope I don't have to stay up until 9:30 wait for the tee times and then I have like a 6:45. It was okay. 9:15 wasn't bad.

Q. Are you still -- has high school ended yet for you?

ASTERISK TALLEY: Yeah, well, this year.

Q. What was your last day?

ASTERISK TALLEY: Well, our last day was actually this Thursday but I finished everything --

Q. -- ahead of time?

ASTERISK TALLEY: -- last Friday, yeah.

Q. So got all that out of the way before you came?

ASTERISK TALLEY: Yeah.

Q. (Regarding Augusta National caddie.)

ASTERISK TALLEY: Yeah.
