U.S. WOMEN'S OPEN

June 5, 2026

Gaby Lopez

Pacific Palisades, California, USA

The Riviera Country Club

Flash Interview

Q. Gaby Lopez, even-par 71. Gaby, after your start yesterday, how did it feel get can back out there today?

GABY LOPEZ: I had to make peace with myself a little bit. I had to forgive Gaby for the back nine that I had yesterday. Honestly, very happy with how the round went today.

Yeah, very solid. The pin positions were very difficult today, I found them. It was really hard to get in close. So, yeah, stay patient, and it paid off with a birdie on 16.

Q. How is the course playing? You have U.S. Open experience; how do you expect it to play over the weekend?

GABY LOPEZ: The USGA is an expert at making the greens faster and firmer, so I'm expecting that for the weekend.

The golf course is a beauty. Honestly, I feel that it's such a treat to be playing here. I love it here. I love the people. I love the golf course, the setup. Yeah, it's going to be hard, and I'm expecting that and looking forward to it.

Q. Why do you call it such a treat to be here?

GABY LOPEZ: Because for so many years we've seen the men play here, and you see the pictures and you see the views and you see all this amazing course and you really want to be playing there. I mean, I have never played here before this year.

Even people in Mexico were like, hey, you're playing Riv, like that's a big deal. I'm like, I know, it's a treat. So, yeah, I really enjoy it, and I really hope we get to keep these venues coming to the LPGA.

Q. Considering how the course is playing for you guys, the number you got to yesterday, 6 deep, do you think that could win?

GABY LOPEZ: I don't know, I guess. I don't have a number in my mind. I've had that before, and I don't think it's helpful for me. So being able to literally make peace with whatever it is.

Like yesterday I played great for 10 holes and then make a couple mistakes, and today I played great all day long and didn't shoot under par, and that's golf. I mean, sometimes you're going to get lucky. Sometimes you're going to be surprised by a couple lip-ins and surprised by a couple lip-outs.

I don't know, I feel that the more I enjoy myself out there, the more I truly enjoy being brave. That's where the winning score is.

Q. For tomorrow, what can you expect for Gaby Lopez? Is it a Gaby Lopez that stays comfortable and patient, or is it a Gaby Lopez that's going to go get the trophy?

GABY LOPEZ: I've been in a position where I've pressed and I've forced, and it's not my way. I think there's moments where you have to be more aggressive and there's moments where you have to be more courageous, and there's moments where you need to be kind of gas pedalling down. There's moments where you have to be patient, and there's moments where you have to be okay with a bogey and not a double.

I feel that my psychologist keeps helping me to get into this shifting mentality of calmness and aggressiveness, and I think I did that very well today.

Q. Have you talked to Lorena about trying to win majors?

GABY LOPEZ: Yes, and the question I keep getting from her is experience. I keep digging into her like, hey, what did you do? What did you feel? What was your mental process? And she's like, no, experience is going to show you. I'm like -- (laughter). I'm like, no, I need a recipe.

So, yeah, at the end of the day, I think my recipe is getting to know myself a little bit more because you're not Lorena, I'm not Lorena, and who cares being Lorena? Just be you, and being authentic to yourself and being Gaby is my super power, and I'm trying to stick to that.
