LIV GOLF ANDALUCĂA

June 5, 2026

Thomas Detry

Sotogrande, Spain

Real Club Valderrama

4Aces GC

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: Let's welcome Thomas Detry from 4Aces. Well-played today, 1-under par round of 70. You're 4-under par for the tournament, currently solo second after round 2 here at LIV Golf AndalucĂa. Can you take us through your round today?

THOMAS DETRY: Yes, I can. Got off to a great start. Actually made a couple really good putts for par, which weirdly enough is what I really struggled with in my game last week. I couldn't really make a putt last week. The greens were obviously different. But I made a couple of key putts for par and sort of kept the momentum going.

1-under at the turn, and on the course out here, I feel like anything under par is a success. I would love to see the rewind of that shot on 11, but I think it was almost a 2 on hole No. 11. That was pretty special.

No, it's a grind out there. Bit of a shame to have leaked two more shots there on 15 and 18. But I feel like my game is in a pretty good spot for my fifth week in a row.

Q. You've had an incredibly consistent year, currently fifth in the standings. It's your rookie season on LIV. Just some thoughts on your rookie season as a whole?

THOMAS DETRY: I've done so much good stuff, but weirdly enough, you always try to achieve and try to do better.

I'm many points behind Jon Rahm and Bryson, so I feel like in that perspective, I'm a little bit disappointed. I'd really like to be a little bit closer.

I haven't locked up some of the majors, as well, that I would like to be in. There's two more majors until the end of the year, and I still haven't locked those up.

Yeah, I've got some work to do for those next two weeks because I feel like I could change my schedule a little bit for the next couple of months if I have a good weekend.

Q. Thomas, 32 bogey-free holes to start the week. That's pretty impressive out here --

THOMAS DETRY: 34. Two bogeys, 34. Oh, the first 32, yeah, you're right. Apologies.

Q. Pretty impressive, given the difficulties of this course. How would you assess it?

THOMAS DETRY: Yeah, I think the key out here is really to see the lines off the -- there's not that many drivers, so you can sort of keep it on the fairway if you can manage to get some tight lines, get those nice little stingers off the tee and the keep the ball in the fairway.

But I feel like the difficulty out here is those greens are so small. You forget how small the greens are. When I came up here on Tuesday and walked the course, it sort of reminded me of how small the greens are.

On a windy day like today, you've got cross-wind. It's really tough; sometimes the wind is hurting, sometimes slightly helping, and that can easily make five, six, seven meters of difference, and that's the difference between being middle of the green or being five steps over the green and having a really tough up-and-down for par.

I do feel like those shots into the greens are pretty key this week. Obviously momentum on the greens always helps, which I feel like I've done pretty well with that.

Q. You mentioned the majors; right now you're projected to get the Open spot if the standings stay this way. Obviously you could climb into the top 60, too. Did you come into this week knowing that this was an important week to not only just win but not off some of those major aspirations?

THOMAS DETRY: Not really. Weirdly enough, I feel like the last couple of weeks I've been beaten up on that side of things. I missed out on the top-60 cutoff by pretty much nothing, and then I had to have a half decent week at the PGA, ended up missing the cut by one.

Then I flew back to England, played a qualifier, played 36 holes, thought I qualified, and I ended up losing in a playoff. I feel like that U.S. Open spot is going to be -- if I end up qualifying, it's going to be a very well-deserved qualified spot because you look at my results the last couple of tournaments, and I think I've had seven top 10s in my last 11 or 12 events. So it's been pretty consistent.

But we make so many low world ranking points that it's sometimes tough to just stay inside the top 60.

Yeah, like I said, the majors, no, I really want to qualify for the majors. But I've been beaten up pretty well the last couple weeks, so I've given up on that and I'm just focusing on having a good week this week, to be honest.

Q. I want to ask about your history at Valderrama, how much you've played here.

THOMAS DETRY: Actually, yeah, my family is actually from the region. My grandma is Spanish, so my family is from around here. I used to come down here, play Valderrama obviously on the DP World Tour and play Real Sotogrande, as well, when I was a junior.

I've been around here since I was 12, 10 years old, coming down here every year and playing those golf courses. I'm very familiar with the area.

Q. You almost did an albatross on the 11th. How did that feel?

THOMAS DETRY: It felt amazing. We had a great number. It was downwind. The greens are very firm, so we needed to land the ball just short, and the ball, I think, landed a couple of inches short of the green, pitched softly and then released. I didn't realize it was that close because you can't really see the hole, but I'd love to see the highlight. I haven't really seen the highlight on TV. I'd love to see how close it was because I haven't made one yet.

But it definitely felt pretty good. It's nice to have a tap-in eagle especially.
