U.S. WOMEN'S OPEN

June 4, 2026

Sei Young Kim

Pacific Palisades, California, USA

The Riviera Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Sei Young Kim, 4-under 67. Really nice round out there. What have you seen out of Riviera so far?

SEI YOUNG KIM: This course is really famous in the world, so I'm very happy to play here this week. Also, the course is not easy. Like every hole is putting me to the test.

Yeah, I played it quite solid today, so I'm very happy with that. But we have three more days, and I look forward to the rest of the day.

Q. You've played in enough U.S. Opens, bogeys are going to happen. How does the mindset shift this week when you know it's going to be challenging?

SEI YOUNG KIM: The U.S. Open is not regular -- not the same as a regular tournament. So you need to be really patient instead of attacking the pin. So I try to really follow what my caddie says and try to every hole -- even though I make a bogey, I try to make patient, patient until the end.

Yeah, that's helped me a lot.

Q. There's been a lot of talk about the 10th hole this week, and you started off with a bang on No. 10. Can you take us through just when you first played it, what you thought your strategy might be, and then how you executed that today?

SEI YOUNG KIM: No. 10 is a hole the green goes right to left. You have to keep the left side of the fairway. If not, it's really tough to attack the pin even under -- it's tough on the green if you miss the right side.

So I try to focus on my tee shot to keep the left side fairway. Yeah, I hit it good the first tee shot, and I was able to make a birdie, then starting out really solid with that.

Q. Have you discovered the secret to the kikuya grass, and have you had much experience with this type of grass?

SEI YOUNG KIM: Before the tournament, I took off two weeks. Last week I came here before the tournament for the practice round. I tried to get used to the grass because the grass is not the same as a regular tournament.

So I try to practice a lot. It's helped me a lot.

Q. So you've been in L.A. for two weeks?

SEI YOUNG KIM: No, just two days. Two days, last weekend, yeah.
