TV Quick Quotes

Q. Sergio, Valderrama is such a tough golf course, let alone with the conditions today. How would you assess your round, and how satisfied are you?

SERGIO GARCIA: Well, I'm very happy. Obviously I got a little lucky there on 18, but very, very tricky. Obviously Valderrama is already tricky enough, and with these gusty winds, I got two huge gusts on 16 and 17. 16 I hit my 8-iron 120 yards and I tried to keep it down. It doesn't make any sense.

Then on the next, I had like 215 yards to carry the water, and I hit it like 200 yards with a 3-iron and I flushed it. It's a good thing that I hit it a little right.

Yeah, it's just tricky. You just have to be very patient. Even sometimes hitting good shots, you don't get rewarded because of the wind.

But I was very happy with the way I scored.

Q. Patience seems to be a running theme out here at Valderrama, and that's exactly what you were out there today. How much of that is experience?

SERGIO GARCIA: Yeah, without a doubt, experience counts. But I think we all know what we're doing out here, and I think probably 95 percent of the guys know that this course requires a lot of patience.

Even for DJ, I didn't feel like he played that badly, and he just couldn't get anything going. It's tough, but we're here.

Q. Seems like the forecast tomorrow is going to be a completely different wind direction altogether, playing a completely different golf course. How does that change your mental game going into tomorrow?

SERGIO GARCIA: Yeah, like you said, if it starts blowing from Levante, it's going to be a totally different golf course. Like 1 is going to play down off the right instead of into off the left. 4 and 17 are going to be playing downwind, 11 is going to be playing into the wind. It's going to be totally different.

The good thing is I've played this course in any kind of condition that you can imagine. Hopefully that's a good thing.
