NBA FINALS: KNICKS VS. SPURS

June 3, 2026

Landry Shamet

New York Knicks

Game 1: Postgame

Knicks 105, Spurs 95

Q. There was a three-pointer that you took from the corner and the crowd here, New York fans, went crazy. Could you elaborate on how important that their presence was for you guys today?

LANDRY SHAMET: Yeah, I mean, Knicks fans have shown throughout the regular season and obviously throughout the playoffs that they are willing to travel and definitely shows up, makes a difference. We notice it.

It's a good feeling, knowing we've got some of ours in the building, and you know, we felt them from the beginning, and they were present throughout the game.

So definitely makes a difference.

Q. How would you describe your voice on this team? I know as you guys go out every night, it's a team goal, team unit. How would you describe how your voice contributes to this team?

LANDRY SHAMET: We all have a voice and we all use it in the right way, open communication with one another. Keep each other in check.

We got really a little too emotional in the first half. Got a little caught up in obviously Game 1 of the Finals and everything going on. So we were talking to each other and trying to settle each other in, focus on the things we need to focus on and we did a good job of that. We have got a lot of guys who use their voice and we all step in and kind of know when and where to insert ourselves.

Q. Obviously this run would be rewarding under any circumstances but with how the postseason started, coming out of the rotation, what has it been like for you to play such a significant role over these past two rounds?

LANDRY SHAMET: I mean, you know, my job is my job, and it remains the same: You know, be ready for whatever situation or moment you're asked to step into, and that's the only thing I think about. Not thinking about how it started, anything in the past. I'm thinking about Game 2 against San Antonio. You know, we'll do the whole reflection and look back thing when it's all said and done.

But right now, that's where I'm at. We are all focused on our job and how we can best help each other try to get a win.

Q. Coach earlier was saying that while you guys got the win, there's still so much more you guys could do to play better. What do you think you guys can improve on from the game tonight?

LANDRY SHAMET: Gave up way too many points in transition. We've got to set the tone better early in the game. They were comfortable in transition, and you know, we weren't playing great, and it was only like a seven-point deficit at the half, I think. That's one thing we can clean up.

We were fouling way too much early, which, you know, you could say is due to emotions running high, Game 1 of the Finals, obviously.

We'll look at the film and kind of chop some stuff up and come back but those are two things I can think of off the top of my head. We've got to quit falling and get back in transition.

Q. Did you guys feel like the Spurs wilted in the fourth quarter? They had a hard series coming out of Oklahoma City and seemed like you guys took it to them in the fourth.

LANDRY SHAMET: I mean, I don't know if I would call it that. I think it's competition and we've put ourselves in situations where we've got to fight back from a deficit and we did that and we chipped away. We started focusing on ourselves and doing the right things. And slowly but surely, that led to us cutting the deficit and ultimately getting the win.

So I don't -- they played great through the majority of the game and put us in a tough spot, but you know, we found the resolve to figure it out late.

So that's encouraging but we've got to clean some stuff up.
