Quick Quotes
Q. Amazing round today, career low 63, with a hole-in-one. Just talk about how today was for you.
A.J. EWART: Yeah, kind of just happened. Didn't really realize it was 63 until I signed my card. But, yeah, it was a good day. I got off to a somewhat slow start. I think I was 1-under through 5 or 6 maybe. Then made the hole-in-one. Then birdied 18. And it was like, okay, things are going.
I made the turn and tried to keep the foot on the gas and did so. So, yeah, it was a good day, but it's kind of why you work is to have these days. You don't expect it in a way, but when they happen you're not super surprised.
Q. Tell us about the hole-in-one on 16. What club did you use, have you ever had a hole-in-one before? I know it's your first on TOUR.
A.J. EWART: Yeah, someone asked me, I think it was 8 or 9, something like that. It's 195 yards. I just hit like a three-quarter 6-iron. Wasn't really aiming at the flag, I was trying to hit it 10 feet left of it. But, yeah, it just happened to go in and here we are. So, yeah, it was just a perfect number and it was a good swing and it just went in the hole.
Q. You're making your Colonial debut. What have you learned about the course the past couple days?
A.J. EWART: I've learned that it's one of my favorite stops I've gone to this year. I think the tournament just runs a first-class event. Everything from arrival, to the clubhouse, to dining, to just the entire week has been really cool. So I really enjoyed every minute of it. The golf course is just an old, classic. It's pretty in front of you and it doesn't demand too much, but it will penalize you if you're off. But I think it's just a very classic, good golf course.
Q. You had a top 20 last week, how have you felt your game has been trending?
A.J. EWART: Yeah, my game's been good. I think I've gotten off to a good start this year and I've just felt like I've gotten into a good groove. I've been playing well. I've just tried to make steps every week of just getting better and getting more comfortable and trying to put myself into contention more. So to see it kind of pay off and be in this situation is rewarding to know that my work is working, so I look forward to the next couple days.
Q. You've been on tour now for almost half a year, curious on your comfort level now like week in, week out as you start to make your debuts at a bunch of these tournaments.
A.J. EWART: Yeah, it's definitely gotten, I've gotten a lot more comfortable since the start of the year in Hawaii or Torrey Pines or Palm Springs. I feel like I've played some good golf and know that I belong out here and I can compete. Yeah, I think that's just kind of through hard work and just experience and being out here more, it just, I've just grown as a player and as a person and I'm just happy to be out here and playing. Yeah, life's pretty good.
Q. You're just one off the lead right now heading into the weekend, what expectations do you have?
A.J. EWART: I don't have many expectations. I'm just going to go out and play my game and play against the golf course, and wherever that puts me at the end of the week that's where it puts me. Obviously I want to go out and win the golf tournament, but I'm just going to keep putting one foot in front of another and see where that puts me at the end of the week.
