Quick Quotes
Q. Joining us after the first rounds in the of the ShopRite LPGA powered by Wakefern is Polly Mack. Polly, very good round today. Also a hot start with an eagle on three. Could you just walk us through that eagle tee-to-green, what club you hit, where it landed, basically what made it happen?
POLLY MACK: Yeah, sure. I hit a driver off the tee; had about 1 maybe 90, 188 to the pin. I believe it was a little downwind -- must have been downwind then. A little rough lie, so we knew, okay, just landing short of the green or just on the green is perfect.
Came out nicely out of the rough, sat nicely, and just rolled past the pin just on the fringe. Was about an 80-footer. Decided to do putt it because it was playing really nicely. Had about a (indiscernible) left to right downhill, and, yeah, was just rolling very smoothly. Just perfect break how I read it and perfect speed, too, and rolled nicely in there.
Q. Getting an eagle early on in your round, does that really make you feel like maybe the course is gettable or sets you up for the rest of your round?
POLLY MACK: It's definitely nice to make a putt like that early on, but it's also you got to stay patient on these greens. You just can't take for granted that they're rolling in, so it was nice to just have that in your pocket.
But, yeah, was patient off the tee. I was just rolling them much smoother than I thought they would maybe be this afternoon. Just had some really good putts. I worked on my stroke a little bit in my off week, so felt like I was coming in nicely today.
And yeah, just some good momentum, yeah.
Q. You mentioned you were working on your stroke. What does that look like for you? Is that equipment tweaks? Is that just doing drills?
POLLY MACK: I'm sticking to my putter right now. I do like it a lot. No, we were just checking the regular like how is it coming off the club face, we were looking at it technically a little bit, doing the putt lab.
And, yeah, it was just a little something, so I feel like now it's just coming off the face with a little bit more loft than before. I was delofting it too much, so it's a nice good like first (indiscernible) right and then it rolls. It's hard to explain, but, yeah, kind of like that.
It felt really good this morning on the putting green already and I had a really good feeling about it, which was nice. Was showing up on the course, too.
Q. Seeing low scores out here, but I don't think anybody would say this course is easy. What do you think is important to be able to capitalize on the quirks of this course specifically to be successful out here?
POLLY MACK: Yeah, it's important to hit some fairways to have good wedge shots into the greens, get the right numbers on the wedge shots. It can get gusty and windy, so to have the right number for yourself for that green to estimate it correctly, with a little bit of (indiscernible) here and there, soft green, I think that's important.
And then just longer, tougher par-3s. You know, just smoothly make your pars, which is totally fine I think on those number ones. Yeah, make your par-5s kind of your advantage. Get on them in two; having easy two-putt for birdie is nice.
